Location of Pakistan

 The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is situated between 24.50


and 37.05 latitudes north and 61 to 78 longitudes east
 The country is located in the mountainous region
adjoining Central Asia and the Middle East
 It is in the western part of South Asia
 Its area is 796,096 sq km, Pakistan is the world’s 36th
largest country
 Pakistan stretches over 1600km from north to south and
about 885km from east to west
 Pakistan’s has close proximity to the Tropic of Cancer

Pakistan enjoys a key position in South Asia
• Afghanistan is to the north-west
• Iran is to the west

Afghanistan
• to the north-west of Pakistan
• has deep historical and geographical ties with Pakistan
• linked together in religious, racial and cultural bonds
• border is 2252 Km long , fixed in 1893 by British
government, called DURAND LINE
• The Wakhan Corridor is a narrow, rugged,
mountainous strip of territory in Afghanistan,
extending to China and separating Muslim republic
of Tajikistan from Pakistan and Kashmir.
• Khyber Pass provides a land route to Afghanistan
• Pakistan’s sea ports of Karachi and Gwadar also
serves these areas

Republic of China
• To the north-east of Pakistan
• Friendly relations particularly due to trade prospects
• Chinese goods have flooded in our markets giving a tough competition
to the domestic industries
• Border is 585 km as decided in 1963
• An important ‘Silk Road’ route which connected Indian
subcontinent to China is today the 8th wonder of the world; known
as the ‘Karakoram Highway’. It was completed in 1979 and opened
to the public in 1985, it is a 1300km road which links Hasan Abdal
(located a few kilometers beyond Islamabad, the capital of
Pakistan) with Kashgar, the second most important city in Xinjiang
province, China. The Karakorum Highway has attracted traders and
travelers from all over the world; it passes through the three
greatest mountain ranges on Earth: the Himalayas, the Karakoram

and the Hindu Kush.
India
• to the east of Pakistan
• the relations between the two countries have mostly been war-like, not
cordial
• injustice during partition created tension about states of Jammu &
Kashmir
• Wagah border (Indian name is Attari), is the only road crossing from
India into Pakistan. It is 2912 kms. long and not straight and natural. It
is 29 km from Lahore, Pakistan and 27 km away from Amritsar, India.
It is regularly open to foreigners and serves as a goods transit terminal
and a railway station between Pakistan and India.
• The Line of Control (LOC) is the line that marks where the region of
Kashmir is divided. The land on one side of the line is controlled by
India, and the land on the other side is controlled by Pakistan. It is not
a legal international border, but is the effective boundary between the

Iran
• to the south west of Pakistan
• Muslim brotherly relations between both the countries
• Many pilgrims from visit holy shrines of Iran from Pakistan
• Both countries cooperate in defense, trade and economics
• The boundary line with Iran is 912 km fixed in 1957
• Through Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project Iran is able to
supply enough natural gas to Pakistan from its gas fields.
• There are well-constructed road, railways and air routes
between both the countries

Tajikistan
• Pakistan has easy access to Central Asian Republics; especially through
the building of Motorway
• These CAS Republics have untapped resources of mineral oil and natural
gas which can be transported through Pakistan and Iran to South Asian
countries by constructing pipelines

Arabian Sea
• To the south of Pakistan
• coastline is 1046 km long
• Karachi a natural harbor and an important warm water port serves as a
refuellingstop for ships
• Karachi, Keamari and GwadarSea ports link Pakistan with the foreign and
Arabcountries,internationaltrade and oil politics
