My Philosophy as a Student
I believe that education is the most crucial thing in life. Education gives you knowledge,
which gives you power. Knowledge is the key to success and happiness. That is why,
although I feel I’m left behind, I am still here attempting to finish a degree in Psychology.
Education can give me many things such as a good job, self-confidence, and a better
understanding of people around me.
Education can give me many things such as a good job, self-confidence, and a better
understanding of people around me. However, it also has taken away many things from
me, such as my time and youth. I have so many wonderful memories from when I was
in elementary school and high school; however, once I first attempted to start attending
college, everything changed. Circumstances happened, and much as I would love to
continue studying back then, my family’s financial situation denied me to continue my
studies at my first school. My aunt, my father’s sister, tried to send me to school again
since she has a business and would like me to help out while continuing my studies.
Unfortunately, the business fell and she could no longer send me to school. This was
my second major heartbreak.
After that happened, I stopped going to school altogether; instead, I applied to a contact
center in Makati City and started working. This went on for 8 months until one day I felt
exhausted from taking in calls and selling our services. That’s when I decided to go
back to Davao and attempt to study again. Sadly, our financial situation at home didn’t
change and after 3 months I went back to Manila and applied to the first BPO (Business
Process Outsourcing) company in the Philippines. I got hooked on earning money,
although they have educational program assistance, which I also attempted, but didn’t
continue to pursue since I was so focused on building a career. I got promoted several
times in 3 years but didn’t feel any satisfaction at all; like there is no sense of fulfillment
from completing each task, and responsibility.
During the pandemic, I felt my mental health breaking down, which led me to decide to
go back home. I worked here with several BPO companies and virtual companies as
well, but the feeling of emptiness, dissatisfaction, and unworthiness lingers on like a
leech attached to my very soul. That’s when I examined and reviewed what I want to
see when I look in the mirror. I realized that what I want is to finish college and have a
degree in Psychology, which I’m very interested in.
That's why I believe that education is the most important thing in life. Education gives
you knowledge, which gives you the power; to control your future and create
opportunities that work for you. Knowledge is the key to success and happiness, and I
would do whatever it takes to get there. This is my philosophy as a student, not
everyone will understand where I am coming from, but I could only hope that everyone
will value the chance to graduate.
