community wellness. In the course of exploring this quarter,
you will discover different environmental issues, health
habits, and appropriate strategies needed to protect your
environment.
In addition, you will learn appropriate practices, life
skills and personal responsibilities that may help you manage
environmental issues

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH includes different aspects of your health that are controlled by physical, chemical,
biological, social, and psychological factors in your immediate environment.

Environmental Health
- Emphasizes human health risks and hazards brought about by natural and man – made environments.
- Is also about learning to assess, control, and prevent environmental risk and hazards that can
adversely affect the present and future generations.

What are the environmental health factors that can adversely affect the
health of community members? Some of these environmental problems are:

• Overcrowding
• Insects and pests
• Epidemic diseases As a member of the community, you can contribute in making a healthy

social values and responsibilities; society.

HEALTHY COMMUNITY is one where people have the opportunity to make healthy choices, in environments
that are safe, free from violence, and designed to promote health.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A HEALTHY COMMUNITY


❖ A healthy environment contributes to community wellness.
❖ Members of the community cooperatively working for a clean and safe environment.
❖ A healthy community has a good housing conditions that are clean, properly ventilated, with controlled level of noise,
with proper lighting and clean air.
❖ Every family does home gardening to help in food production and prevent malnutrition.
❖ Everybody helps in proper waste management to prevent diseases caused by insects and pests.
❖ Another very important aspect of a healthy community is when family lives in harmony.
❖ A healthy environment can positively impact on the health of people and communities. It is expected that there will
be less diseases and so there will be less health care cost.
