Phil Lit Week 4

A thesis statement is a sentence that sums up the central point of your paper or essay. It
usually comes near the end of your introduction.

What is a literature review? A literature review is a survey of scholarly sources on a specific

topic. It provides an overview of current knowledge, allowing you to identify relevant theories,
methods, and gaps in the existing research that you can later apply to your paper, thesis,
or dissertation topic.

There are five key steps to writing a literature review:

1. Search for relevant literature

2. Evaluate sources
3. Identify themes, debates, and gaps
4. Outline the structure
5. Write your literature review

Introduction – establishing purpose

Body – analyzing the literature

Conclusion - summarizing key findings

To be more specific, you can discuss the salient (most noticeable, important)

characteristics of post-EDSA literature and their themes (the subject of a talk )as your review
focus.

Asked on 04 Jan, 2020. Answer: A review of related literature (RRL) is a detailed review of
existing literature related to the topic of a thesis or dissertation. In an RRL, you talk about
knowledge and findings from existing literature relevant to your topic.
Before starting the review, determine how you want to organize the review, that is, whether you wish to
discuss the resources by themes, dates, extent of relevance, and so on.

Look for a post-EDSA lit.

Thesis statement: Characteristics of Post-EDSA Literature: A Literature Review

Introduction:

There are a few characteristics of literature during the post-EDSA period. They made literary works at
that time distinctive and many authors were able to put their thoughts into words creatively. This paper
is going to discuss the most conspicuous characteristics of Philippine Literature after the EDSA
Revolution. Moreover, the post-EDSA literature embraced many attributes that shone through and
caught people’s attention. The article I chose was written by Mercado et al. (n. d.) and the paper talked
about several pieces of information about the period. They also included then famous authors and
provided a few of their backgrounds. Additionally, the paper contained their most notable literary
works’ summary. Overall, this paper aims to determine the attributes of post-EDSA literature.

Body:

Depending on the length of your literature review, you might want to divide the body into
subsections. You can use a subheading for each theme, time period, or methodological
approach.

As you write, you can follow these tips:

 Summarize and synthesize: give an overview of the main points of each source and

combine them into a coherent whole
 Analyze and interpret: don’t just paraphrase other researchers—add your own
interpretations where possible, discussing the significance of findings in relation to the
literature as a whole
 Critically evaluate: mention the strengths and weaknesses of your sources
 Write in well-structured paragraphs: use transition words and topic sentences to draw
connections, comparisons, and contrasts

To begin with, the paper focused on post-EDSA literature and its characteristics. According to the
article, literature and creative writing during this era is a part of curricular contributions in schools,
publication inside campuses like newspapers were also a source of writing, and groups of writers were
conducting seminars for their members and others about writing. Lastly, the literary scene during after
the EDSA revolution showed the production of literary pieces, their publication, concerns illustrated by
authors, and the way studying literature brings us.
