SPIRITUALITY AND MANAGEMENT
INTRODUCTION
Research suggests that as society has advanced in terms of leisure, technology and the
communication of ideas, to the point where individuals have an increasing desire to experience
spirituality not only in their personal life but also in their work. Spirituality helps an individual
to become a better version of themself which enables them to become a valuable asset for the
organisation.
WHAT IS SPIRITUALITY?
Spirituality is a broad concept with room for many perspectives. In general, it includes a sense
of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning
in life. As such, it is a universal human experience—something that touches us all. People may
describe a spiritual experience as sacred or transcendent or simply a deep sense of aliveness and
interconnectedness.
WHAT IS MANAGEMENT?
Management is the process of planning and organising the resources and activities of a
business to achieve specific goals in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Efficiency
in management refers to the completion of tasks correctly and at minimal costs. Effectiveness
in management relates to the completion of tasks within specific timelines to yield tangible
results.
ETHICS AND SPIRITUALITY

● Counters the problem of materialism
● The main ethical message is always love and compassion, which is against greed and
disintegration in the society
● guides businesses to achieve social sustainability.
● The more spiritual awareness an individual consumer has, the more likely that person to
have an ethical predisposition.
C’s OF MANAGEMENT AND SPIRITUALITY
I. COMMITMENT:it allows an organization to meet its goals and stick to its vision.
Without a motivated workforce, an organization could lose all that they have
earned over the years, be it respect or their market position.
II. CONNECTIVITY:Make people connected. Throw open chances for discussions
as it creates a sense of connectivity. Sharing problems or issues creates
connectivity. Discussions, sharing, and listening will create connectivity.
III. COMPASSION:Compassion is absolutely essential in a working atmosphere.
Managers can make a group and get involved in activities which can invoke the
compassion of the team, such as, taking up a service project. As a team takes up
some relief work, or does any activity which is not profit motivated it helps in
mankind a bond between the team.
IV. CREATIVITY:Provide an opportunity for people to express their creativity. It
creates a beautiful energy and a fantastic atmosphere in the organization.
Employees also get a sense of recognition and are motivated to do better.
LESSONS FOR MANAGEMENT

The traditional standard behavior such as tough minded decision making and competitive
aggression has no attraction today but traits such as warmth, nurturing, affection and intuition
(which are the features of spirituality) are recognized. If managers and superiors are open and
welcoming, bottom line personnel feel comfortable. People are more comfortable and happy
when they are allowed and encouraged to connect on a deeper level with others and the entire
organization works well when personnel are happy.
SPIRITUAL LESSONS FOR LEADERS
● Be present :
Being present and living by the moment is quite a robust spiritual thought which was
emphasized by many spiritual leaders. Instead of dwelling in the past, or worrying about the
future, being in the present brings the best business decisions and evokes mental focus.
● Develop a service mindset :
Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs has firmly believed in this principle, whether it was business or
in real life. The idea of service is quite selfless and brings out joy to the giver. Follow the motto
“Service to man is service to God,” which is a most profound spiritual thought.
● Be a listener :
While oratory skills are the obvious thing for a leader, listening practice is equally
important. Make a point to listen to your peers, subordinates, team members, and what not?
You never knew where good advice or idea could pop up from! That can happen only when
extremely aware listening skills
● Be humble :
Being a leader naturally brings the person into a high level of control and authority, but
at the same time, being humble brings up a new level of surrender and dedication towards
work. Many leaders such as Warren Buffet and Bill Gates display humility despite reaching
great heights in business.
● Believe in instincts :
Brainstorming on a product or an idea fetches desirable results in business, but the best
results at times come with intuitive thought. Trust your instincts which may not be logical
always. At times, believing in instincts brings a life-changing outcome, which is non-
conformist and brilliant.
WORKPLACE SPIRITUALITY

● ORGANIZATIONAL LEVEL(alignment/ organizational values)

○ Feel connected to organisation’s goals
○ Identify with organisation’s mission and values
○ Organization cares about employees
BENEFITS OF SPIRITUALITY AT WORK
● Increased job satisfaction :

A 2016 study found workplace spirituality to be positively correlated with job satisfaction
and trust among employees. it’s easy to see how this creates a ripple effect and benefits
everyone. when any given person finds sense and meaning in their job, all the collective tasks
become more effortless and on-track.
● Individual Growth and fulfillment :
In spiritual workplaces, there’s usually more room for individual expression and
diversity of viewpoints. Thanks to that, people know their opinion is valued and become
empowered to live and work better. In the long-term, this makes them more committed to their
organizations and prevents burnout.
● Psychological safety :
In a culture where competition is prioritized, people often feel pressured to prove their
worth through work-related achievements. This keeps employees on constant edge, never able
to relax completely. Conversely, spirituality at work brings out the values of collaboration and
understanding, allowing people to feel at ease inside their teams.
● Enhanced creativity :
Creativity is a natural consequence of psychological safety at work. To be creative means
to look for solutions and ideas that weren’t tested before and therefore carry a risk of failure. To
explore them, people need to feel that they can afford to make a mistake. As Teresa Amabile
wrote in How to Kill Creativity, “to enhance creativity, there should always be a safety net below
the people who make suggestions.
CONCLUSION
▪ By using energy and spiritual laws, the realization of plans and projects and overall
implementation of labor relations can be made easier.
▪ A positive organizational environment, increased worker productivity and good return

on investment can be created. Through the use of simple meditation techniques,
individuals will develop a sharp mind, increasing their capacity to make accurate
decisions and take care of critical business situations.
