Installation Unit placement-horizontal ‘See Figure t and2 Horizontal heat pump units are designed to be hung from the ceiling as shownin Figure 1. Mounting brackels, rubber grommets, bolts and washers ate also shipped in the unit ‘The mounting brackets are designed to accept up to 3/8 inch threaded rods. Using the bolts and washers provided, assemble the mounting brackets to top of unit, Twist the rubber grommets into the mounting brackets. A flat washer and two nuts (not supplied by Mammoth) should be used fomountthe uniton he collin attached threaded rods. The heat pump should be installed slightly pitched toward the condensate drain connection Figure 1 Horizontal mounting detail Unit ptacement-vertical See Figure 3 The unit must be installed on a flat, level surface. We recommend that a continuous carpet pad or other isolating ‘material be placed under the unit to prevent noise irans- mission to the building structure. I the units installed in a Closet adjacent to the conditioned space, provide an insu- lated return air duct with at least one 90° bend. Ifa tree selumn ait system is used, position fiter-side of the unit as close as possible to the return air gril The unit is shipped from the factory with access to the electrical box such that return air enters the unit from the right side as facing the electrical control box. Access to the electrical box may be changed to the opposite side by following the instructions. given in Figure 3, SL BREE sore coos 1 Bape ie Figure 2 Grommet detail we co Ductwork Itaretum air duct is used, it may be fastened to the flanges onthe fiterguides. Make sure theres easy access forfiter replacement The flanges at the biower opening may be used for a flexible duct connection between the heat pump and the supply air duct. Be sure the blower wheel tums freely and is contered before making this connection ‘The discharge or supply air duct should be insulated and have at least one 90° bend prior tothe first discharge gril Heat pump life expectancy and efficiency depends on adequate air tlow. For nominal cim information see unit data sheet, o Figure 3 Vertical installation detat Water supply —_—_ “The heat pump must notbe operated without water flowing through lis water-o-rerigerant heat exchanger calls, Se- vvere damage to the unit may resuit. For proper water flow rates, refer to the unit specification sheet ‘Condensate drain See Figures 4 and 5 ‘Condensate drain is setup for 7/8-inch od copper connec- tion. The condensate pipe or hose installed must have a minimum -inchtrap nthe condensate lin. Allcondensate piping must pitch away from the unit for proper drainage by gravity and as required by local codes. Check all wire connec- tions in unit and to external control devices, Make certain that the thermostat system switch is in the ‘OFF” position and the fan switchis in the “AUTO" position ‘Also, the electrical box cover and access panels should be mounted in place. Then turn on the power to the unit, ‘Turn the thermostat fan switch to the "ON" position, The unit blower should operate. Note: Unit may not start for 2-5 minutes due to usage of random start relays and/or anti-short cycle relays. 1) Check the airflow and make sureno supply ails or duct dampers are closed to restrict airflow. 2) Set the thermostat temperature setting low and turn the system switch to the heating mode. 3} Increase the temporature setting gradually to above room temperature until unt stars. 4) After operating the unit for approximately ten minutes, check the air temperature rise between supply and returnairstreams. Theminimumtemperature se should be about 18°F. 5) Using a surface pyrometer or other device, check the temperature of the entering and leaving water tempera- tures at the unit, The recommended water temperature drop between entering and leaving water may range from5°to9°F al 45°F enteringwater temperature (ENT) and from 8° to 15°F at 70° ENT. It any of the above conditions do not exist, one or more of the following problems exist: low airflow, low water flow or unit not performing properly (see Service Manual for de- tails) ‘Nextset the thermostat system switch to cooling mode and. reduce temperature setting gradually until unit starts. After, operating the unit for a few minutes, check if unit is, functioning properly and providing satistactory cooting. Minimum dry bulb temperature drop between supply and return airstreams should be about 16°F. Awater tempera- turerise of 12° to 25°F could be anticipated at relatively low water flow rates. Maintenance Air filters Do not operate the heat pump unit without an ai fier. Clean the fiers at least once every three months and more {roquenty in dusty or other unclean environments Note: Dirty filters will cause inefficient heat pump pertor- mance. Aircoll and blower wheel Check the aircoit andblower wheelat least ance each year, Clean if necessary. Caution: Disconnect electiic power supply to heat pump before removing cabinet access panels. Compressor ‘The Hydrobank heat pumps have been designed with switches that protect the unit's refrigerant system if retrig- eranl pressures exceed either high or low limits. t unsuit- able pressure occurs, the compressor will automatically, shut down. (Some thermostats will indicate a compressor shut-down with a “reset” light.) Ii the compressor shuts down, turn the thermostat system ‘switch to the “OFF” position. Aftor approximately 10 min- Lutes tur the thermostat system switch to °ON' and restart, theunit Ifthe compressor shuts down again after only brief operation, a problem exists and a qualified service person, must be called to provide service. General service ‘Any repair or service on the unit may be performed only by qualified service personnel. A sorvice manual detailing trouble-shooting procedures is available from Mammoth.
