1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN


Every OVAL product is thoroughly tested and inspected before shipment from our factory. When received, its
appearance should be inspected for possible damage by rough handling during transit. First of all, thoroughly
read the instructions given in this section.
If you have any inquiry, consult the distributor or representative from which you purchased the equipment, or
your nearest field sales office in the OVAL customer service network.

CAUTION: When you inquire, supply complete information as to the product name,
model number, serial number, ratings, etc.

1.1 Transportation Considerations


In order to safeguard against damage during transportation, the ball valve can best be transported to the
installation location in the original package used for shipment from the factory.

1.2 Storage Considerations


If the instrument is to be stored over an extended period of time before installation, it could be involved in
unexpected happenings. So if an extended period of storage is anticipated, the following precautions should
be taken:
(1) The equipment should be stored in the original package used for shipment from the factory if circumstances
permit.
(2) Select a storage location that meets the following requirements:
- Free from rain and water.
- Vibration and impact shock are least encountered.
- Temperature and humidity in the storage location are at or near the room temperature and humidity
(25°C, 65% R.H.).
(3) When a used valve is stored, remove the residual of measured fluids that may be attached to the valve,
joint, conduit, valve exterior, etc. by using clean air or N2 gas.

NOTE : If necessary, clean with suitable cleansing solution.

2. OPERATING CONDITIONS
To derive maximum benefit in accuracy and life from the equipment, it is necessary that the flowrate and
pressure be held within the specified conditions.

3. GENERAL
Besides ordinary opening and closing in the ●Available combinations

combining it with an Ultra OVAL flowmeter (Model 15mm (1/2B) to 200mm (8B) Full bore type (AG and AW)

LW74E, LW72E), you can readily and simply build an 80mm (3B) to 250mm (10B) Reduced bore type (AG and AW)

automated batch metering system in the field.

4. CONSTRUCTION AND FEATURES


<Valve body>
(1) Fast response by opening and closing with a 90° turn actuator.
(2) Positive shutoff unaffected by variation in fluid pressure.
(3) Exceptionally small pressure loss at full-open position.
(4) Simple maintenance with interchangeable parts.
(5) Does not require periodic greasing.
In addition to the features above, we have ball valves with a fire-safe arrangement, which protects the seat
against fire resulting from a plant fire, or overheat at valve-to-pipeline connections which may burn out the
seat. In this arrangement, the ball is forced on its seat by fluid pressure when a Teflon seat has burned out,
thereby sealing off the process fluid.

<AG-S series cylinders in single cylinder/rack gear design>


Three models - AG06S, AG09S, and AG13S - have an actuator of single-acting cylinder where a combination
rack-and-sector gear design suitable for the torque characteristics of small-sized valves is used in their output
transmission arrangement.

Features
(1) Output remains constant with respect to the rotational angle
(2) Loss of piston thrust is held minimum.
(3) Small internal capacity of the rotational assembly saves air consumption.
(4) Lightweight and compact.
The actuator of AG-S and AWS series cylinders and AG06S, AG09S, and AG13S having double cylinder/scotch
yoke design are of cassette type with totally enclosed spring unit.

<AW-S series cylinders in double cylinder/scotch yoke design>


Four models - AW13S, AW17S, AW20S, and AW28S - have a double-acting cylinder and produce an output
similar to the characteristics of valve with scotch yoke design.

Features
(1) The piston is completely isolated from the rotary actuator assembly to reduce operating air consumption to
a minimum.
(2) Thanks to pressure application by two cylinders, well balanced performance and high output is achieved.
(3) Lightweight and compact.

<About the spring return arrangement in an emergency shutoff valve>


In the AW series cylinder, a return spring is incorporated in one of the two cylinders.
- Standard operating air pressure: 0.4 MPa
- Atmospheric temperature: -20 to +80°C
Here is a precaution to remember: Because a return spring actuator is built in, be sure to reduce the air
pressure inside the cylinder completely before starting the disassembly procedures.

<Filter and pressure reducing valve set>


A reducing valve of zinc alloy die cast body equipped with a sintered bronze filter adjusts the operating air
pressure setpoint.
- Operating pressure range : (Inlet) 0.99Mpa max.
: (Outlet) 0.05 to 0.78MPa
- Mesh size: 5 μm
- Air consumption: 10Nl/min. max. (Pressure set at 0.4MPaG)
- Connection: Rc 1/4
- Pressure gage furnished: φ50 FS 0 to 1MPa

5. INSTALLATION
(1) Thoroughly clean the interior of piping assembly before valve installation.
(2) This valve does not require observing the flow direction.
(3) Keep the valve fully open during flushing prior to service operation. Never attempt to open or close the
valve during the flushing process.
(4) For air signal line connection, use copper tubing of inside diameter 6mm at the inlet (Rc 1/4) of the filter and
pressure regulating valve set. Keep the overall line length within 3 meters.

6. OPERATING PRECAUTIONS
(1) Use clean and dry air with dew point 5 to 10°C below the lowest ambient temperature in which this valve is
in service.
(2) Except when manually operated, the manual operating lever should be removed at all times.

7. MAINTENANCE
Periodic inspection is necessary.
Inspection points and maintenance procedure are given below.

7.1 Gland seal area


A trace of leaks from the gland, if found, may be
prevented by lightly tightening up the gland bolt Gland Bolt

7.2 Body seal area


Cap sea areas, including the body, are sealed with
gaskets of Teflon, asbestos or other materials. If
slight leak is found, tighten up the nut. Fig. 7.2

7.3 Actuator assembly (AGS and AWS series cylinders)


The actuator assembly is designed to have adequate strength and require no reconditioning. However, good
practice is to grease once a year to maintain smooth movement at all times.

(1) Greasing the AG series cylinder:

air pressure to zero before removal and then
apply grease.
(2) Leaks through asbestos gasket at the gap screw:
