Hi Tom,
I’m writing to introduce myself because we’re going to be working together on the marine biology project. I
think it’s so cool that our schools are working together. My teacher told me that you’re going to be my partner
on this project, so I want to tell you something about myself before we start.
As you know, I’m studying marine biology at the university. I graduated from high school two years ago, but I
didn’t go to college right away because I went to do some biology work in Thailand for six months. It was great
and some of us from school are going there again next summer for a month.
My family lives in New York and I have an older brother. My family are all artistic, and in fact, none of them like
science. I’m the only crazy scientist in our family! My brother’s an architect, Mom’s a part-time actress and she
does some work on TV, and Dad’s a movie director.
I don’t know many people at college, but I have a great roommate. Kelly and I met on the first day of college and
we’re close friends. Kelly’s studying French, so I don’t see her in class, but we like spending time together. We
both joined a gym and we try to go every day. I lift weights three times a week, I go swimming on the weekends,
and next week we’re going to a cooking class.
Write to me and tell me about yourself. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun doing this project.

O Read the vacation plans. Circle True or False for each statement.
Holiday plans
Next month I graduate from college, and some of us are going to go on vacation together. We finish college
on the 15th June and we’re leaving two weeks later, so we don’t have much time to get things organized. We’re
going to Nicaragua for three weeks. We’re flying to Managua and then we’re going to stay in Granada for a few
days. After that, we’re going to travel to a place with some great beaches. I think we’re going to travel around by
car. I passed my test last month and most of us have driver’s licenses. We’ll see who drives when we get there.
None of us have much money because we’re students, so we’re not going to spend much. I had to borrow some
money from my parents, but I’m going to pay them back when we get back. I had an interview last week at a
hotel in my town and they gave me a job for August. I’m going to be serving in the restaurant until September
so that I can save some money.

I’m going to have an amazing summer! I’m going to a summer sports camp with my sister. I love sports and at
this summer camp there are two pools, one indoor and one outdoor, and six tennis courts! We went last year for
the first time and I made some good friends. When we get back, I’m going to a music festival with my best friend
Jeon. Jeon and I live near each other and we were actually born in the same hospital, and we started school
together. So, we know each other very well!! We both love the festival. It’s a local event and we go every year.
Three days of great bands, crazy people, loud music and lots of fun! The perfect way to end the summer.
