AUXILIARY VERBS

Task 1. Complete the following sentences with the auxiliary verbs given.

Task 2. Now order the statements according to the examples in Task 1.


We use auxiliary verbs (do, have, etc.) or modal verbs (can, must, etc.):
a. ( ) To make question tags, usually to check information. We use a positive auxiliary with a negative verb and
a negative auxiliary with a positive verb.
b. ( ) To say that someone or something is different.
c. ( ) To make 'reply questions', to show interest or surprise.
d. ( ) With so and neither to say that someone or something is the same.
e. ( ) To show emphasis in a positive sentence, often when you want to contradict what somebody says.

COMPOUND ADJECTIVES

A compound adjective consists of an adjective, adverb or noun which consequently modifies another adjective, noun or
verb linking it. We usually hyphenate the words in order to avoid confusion between them. The second part often ends
in –ed or –ing.
