WPPSI-III (WECHSLER PRESCHOOL AND PRIMARY SCALE OF

Name INTELLIGENCE)
Purpose: Test for the assessment of cognitive abilities in young children
Short description: Compared to WPPSI-R, WPPSI-III has an extended age range and can
be used for the assessment of children aged 2:6–7:3 years. Another
novelty is that the test is divided into two age categories; 2:6–3:11
and 4:0–7:3 years. This is because children at this age develop at
different tempo and in different areas. The instructions to the
children are easier to understand in WPPSI-III, and the test leader
has almost unlimited possibilities to use exercise tasks, follow-up
questions, and reminders. There are criteria to interrupt many of the
tasks, so to shorten the test time and to avoid exposing the child to
overly difficult tasks. Both easier and more difficult tasks are
included to provide a better assessment of the child's cognitive
functions
