Learning Objectives : By the end of this chapter, the learners will be able to:
• realise that the plants and trees are an important part of the environment and the need to
be taken care of them as they play a vital role in keeping our environment a better place to
live in for other living beings.
• understand the interdependence of plants and animals to keep up the balance in nature.
• identify and name some common trees around them and reflects the importance of taking care of
trees through the description of Chipko Movement
• develop an understanding of deforestation, its effects and the ways to control it which will
help them to develop a positive attitude and sensitivity towards the environment.
• create awareness on planting and saving trees, not wasting paper.
Effects of deforestation
The loss of trees and other vegetation can cause climate change, desertification, soil erosion, fewer
crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and a host of problems for indigenous
people.
We can contribute to the efforts against deforestation by doing these easy steps:
SAVE OUR FORESTS
**Plant a Tree where you can.
**Go paperless at home and in the office.
**Buy recycled products and then recycle them again.
**Buy certified wood products.
**Support the products of companies that are committed to reducing deforestation
It was a group action in India with the goal of saving trees. This is mainly done through the
act of hugging trees to protect them from being cut. It aimed at protection and conservation of
trees and forests from being destroyed
