6. Section E has 3 Case Based integrated units of assessment (4 marks each) with sub- parts of
the values of 1, 1 and 2 marks each respectively.
7. All Questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice in 2 Qs of 2 marks, 2 Qs of 3 marks
and 2 Questions of 5 marks has been provided. An internal choice has been provided in the 2
marks questions of Section E.

28. The denominator of a fraction is 4 more than twice the numerator. When both the 3
numerator and denominator are decreased by 6, then the denominator becomes 12
times the numerator. Determine the fraction.

Ten years ago, the sum of the ages of two sons was one third of their father’s age.
One son is 2 years older than the other and sum of their present age is 14 years less
than the father’s present age. Find the present ages of the father and the two sons.

32. Two water taps together can fill a tank in 9 3 hrs. Tap of larger diameter takes 10hr 5

less than the smaller one to fill the tank separately. Find the time in which each tap
can separately fill the tank.

Rs.1200 were distributed equally among certain number of students. Had there been
8 more students each would have received Rs.5 less. Find the number of students.
33. i) Prove that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the 5
other two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same
ratio.
ii) ABCD is a trapezium in which AB ∥ DC and its diagonals intersect each other

at the point ‘O’. Using the above theorem, prove that 𝐵𝑂 = 𝐷𝑂 .
34. An iron pole has some part in the form of a right circular cylinder and the 5
remaining in the form of a right circular cone. The radius of the base of the cone
and cylinder is 5cm. The cylindrical part is 80cm high and the conical part is 12cm
high. Find the weight of the pole if one cubic cm of iron weighs 10g (Take  =
22⁄ )

A solid toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a right circular cone. The
height of the cone is 2cm and the diameter of the base is 4cm. Determine the
volume of the toy. If a right circular cylinder circumscribes the toy, find the
difference of the volumes of the cylinder and the toy. (Take  = 3.14)
35. The median of the following frequency distribution is 35. Find the missing 5
frequencies 𝑓1 and 𝑓2 .

36. Case Study – 1
Car pooling is the sharing of car
journeys by people who travel to the
same destination every day. It is an
environmentally friendly way to travel.
Three friends Priya, Quinn and Rakhi
live in societies represented by the
points P, Q and R respectively. They
all work in offices located in the same
building situated at the point O.

(i) They decide to meet at the café located at the centroid of △PQR. 1

37. Case Study – 2


Amit was playing a number card game. In the game,
some cards marked positive and some negative are
arranged in the decreasing order in a row such that
they are following an Arithmetic Progression. On
his first turn, Amit picks up 6th and 14th cards and
finds their sum to be ‒76. On the second turn he
picks up 8th and 16th cards and finds their sum to be
‒96.
Based on the above information answer the following questions.
(i) What is the difference between the numbers on any two 1
consecutive cards?
(ii) What is the number on the first card? 1
(iii) What is the sum of 9th and 15th cards? 2

Find the sum of numbers on the first 15 cards.

38. Case Study – 3


Radio frequency towers are backbone of wireless
communication. A radio station tower is supported by 2
wires from the point O on the ground to the points A
and B on the tower. Distance between the base of the
tower and point O is 36m. From the point O, the angle
of elevation of the point B is 30° and the angle
elevation of the point A is 45°.

Based on the above information answer the following questions


(i) Draw a neat labelled diagram to show the above situation. 1
(ii) Find the height of point B. 1
(iii) Find the length of the wire from the point O to the point A. 2
