INTRODUCTION
Organisational Behaviour tries to understand human behaviour in the organization.
OB is a part of total management but plays a very important role in every area of
management and has been accepted by all the people concerned. The mangers now
understand that to make their organization more effective, they have to understand
and predict the human behaviour in the organization.

WHAT IS ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR ?

According to Keith Davis “organizational behaviour is the study and

application of knowledge about how people act within organizations. It is human
tool for the human benefit. It applies broadly to behaviour of people in all type of
organization such as business, government, schools, etc.

According to L.M PRASAD , “organisational behaviour can be defined as

the study and application of knowledge about human behaviour related to
other elements of an organisation such as structure, technology and social
systems”.

Stephen P. Robbins : “Organisation Behaviour is a field of study that

investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structure have on
behaviour within organisations, for the purpose of applying such knowledge
toward improving an organisation’s effectiveness.”

Moorhead/Griffin : “Organisation behaviour is the study of human

behaviour in organisational settings that interface between 2 human behaviour
and the organisation and the organisation itself.”
Ramon J Aldag and Arthur P Brief : “Organisation behaviour is a
branch of the social science that seek to build theories that ca be applied to
predicting, understanding and controlling behaviour in work organisations.”

TYPES OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR:

The four elements of organizational behavior are people, structure,

technology, and the external environment.

1. People: Organizational behavior describes how people interact with

one another inside of an organization, such as a business. These
interactions subsequently influence how the organization itself behaves
and how well it performs.

2. Structure: An organizational structure is a system that outlines how

certain activities are directed in order to achieve the goals of an
organization. These activities can include rules, roles, and
responsibilities.

3. Technology : Technology can flatten the structure of an

organization by developing functional connections that replace
those vertical reporting relationships. Tela-working increases
access to, participation with, and involvement by remote employees.

4. External Environment: The big picture of an organization's external

environment, also referred to as the general environment, is an inclusive
concept that involves all outside factors and influences that impact the
operation of a business that an organization must respond or react to in order
to maintain its flow of operations.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
This report reviews the existing literature in relation to organizational behavior,
leadership and motivation. The organizational leadership of Frank Mouttet
Limited will be examined in terms of the organizational leadership, and any
issues that may arise. The review will be conducted from the point of view of an
existing senior manager within the company, so physical observation and
access to essential data played key roles in obtaining the required source
information for this review. The data obtained will be analyzed using the various
organizational behavioral theories to arrive at a conclusion and to make
recommendations where necessary.

Human behavior within the boundary of organizations, or a behavioral.

approach to management. As used here, organizational behavior is defined as
"the study of the behavior of individuals and groups in organizations,
and organizations themselves, as they act and interact to attain desired
outcomes" .

Organizational behavior is defined and its micro and macro subdivisions

described. Leavitt's model for organizational change (task, technology, structure,
and people) is employed to extract meanings from the organizational behavior
literature. A diagnostic approach is suggested for applying organizational behavior
to the practice of higher educational administration.
NEED AND IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

NEED OF THE STUDY :

The study of organizational behaviour gives insight on how employees behave

and perform in the workplace. It helps us develop an understanding of the
aspects that can motivate employees, increase their performance, and help
organizations establish a strong and trusting relationship with their employees.
Organizational Behaviour is concerned with the understanding, prediction and
control of human behaviour in organizations. It focuses on the individuals, the
groups and the organization and also on their interactional relationships. It is the
study and application of knowledge about how people act with organizations.

Importance of Organisational Behaviour :

The need and importance of organisational behaviour are as under:

1. Skill Improvement: o Study of Organisational Behaviour helps to improve

skills. o This includes the ability of employees and use of knowledge to become
more efficient. o It also improves managers, as well as other employees, work skill.

2. Understanding Consumer Buying Behaviour : It also an important part to

improve the marketing process by understanding consumer (buying) behaviour.

3. Employee Motivation: OB helps to understand the basis of Motivation and

different ways to motivate employees properly.

4. Nature of Employees: o Understanding of personnel and employee nature is

important to manage them properly. o With the help of OB, we can understand
whether employees or people are Introvert, Extrovert, Motivated, Dominating etc.

5. Anticipating Organisational events: o The scientific study of behaviour helps

to understand and predict organisational events. o For example Annual Business
Planning, Demand Management, Product line management, Production Planning,
Resources Scheduling, Logistics etc.

6. Efficiency & Effectiveness: Study of organisational behaviour helps to

increase efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation

7. Better Environment of Organisation: OB helps to create a healthy, ethical

and smooth environment in an organisation.

Elements in Organisational Behaviour:

An organisation consists not only of people but also a changing network of
interrelated activities. To study the behaviour of people, we must understand
the inter-relationship between human behaviour and other variables, and the
interactions among the formal structure of organisation, tasks, technology and
methods of work, process of management, the behaviour of individuals and
groups, and the external environment. The following are the main elements in
Organisational behaviour.

1.Philosophy and Goals : The Philosophy and goals of management and

workers create the climate of an organisation. The philosophy of
organisational behaviour is derived from both fact and value premises. Fact
premises represents, the behaviour of man or things in common. It is a
universally accepted fact just as law of gravitation, law of demand and supply
etc. Value premises represents the desirability of certain goals. Value
premises control the human activities. The goal of an organisation is to
produce more for the benefit of society, i.e., workers, investors, and common
public, and to satisfy their needs to a maximum extent.

2. Formal and Informal Organisations : Philosophy and goals can be

achieved through formal and informal organisations. Formal organisation
interprets the philosophy and goals of the organisation and implement in a
rigid manner. Informal organisations on the other hand, are opposite to formal
organisation and are not implement rigidly.
3. Social Environment : Social environment means the association with
othe organisation in the society which influence each other.

4. Control System : Control is a must to get the best results. It intermingles

formal organisation, informal organisation and social environment and such
intermingling becomes possible only through communication and group
process.

1. Attitudes and Situation : System of controls influences the two

principal factor of particular motivation i.e., attitudes of workers and
situation factor. An ideal mix of three will yield desirable results. All
these three– control, attitudes, and situations – affect each other and a
slight change in one factor may influence the motivational pattern.
Thus, an effective organisational behaviour system results in productive
motivation which should get an above average performance out of
average. Problem makers should be converted into problem solvers. It
benefits both. If Organisational Behaviour is applied successfully, the
result will be a triple reward system - in which human, organisational
and social objectives are met.

MODELS OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR:

Organizational behavior reflects the behavior of the people and management all
together, it is considered as field study not just a discipline. A discipline is an
accepted science that is based upon theoretical foundation, whereas OB is an inter-
disciplinary approach where knowledge from different disciplines like psychology,
sociology, anthropology, etc. are included. It is used to solve organizational
problems, especially those related to human beings.
There are four different types of models in OB. We will throw some light on each of
these four models.

1.Autocratic Model
2.Custodial Model
3.Supportive Model
4.Collegial Model

1.Autocratic Model

The root level of this model is power with a managerial orientation of authority. The
employees in this model are oriented towards obedience and discipline. They are
dependent on their boss. The employee requirement that is met is subsistence. The
performance result is less.
The major drawbacks of this model are people are easily frustrated, insecurity,
dependency on the superiors, minimum performance because of minimum wage.

2.Custodial Model

The root level of this model is economic resources with a managerial orientation of
money. The employees in this model are oriented towards security and benefits
provided to them. They are dependent on the organization. The employee
requirement that is met is security.
This model is adapted by firms having high resources as the name suggest. It is
dependent on economic resources. This approach directs to depend on firm rather
than on manager or boss. They give passive cooperation as they are satisfied but
not strongly encouraged.
3.Supportive Model

The root level of this model is leadership with a managerial orientation of support.
The employees in this model are oriented towards their job performance and
participation. The employee requirement that is met is status and recognition. The
performance result is awakened drives.
This model is dependent on leadership strive. It gives a climate to help employees
grow and accomplish the job in the interest of the organization. Management job is
to assist the employee’s job performance. Employees feel a sense of participation.

4.Collegial Model

The root level of this model is partnership with a managerial orientation of

teamwork. The employees in this model are oriented towards responsible behavior
and self-discipline. The employee requirement that is met is self-actualization. The
performance result is moderate zeal.
This is an extension of supportive model. The team work approach is adapted for
this model. Self-discipline is maintained. Workers feel an obligation to uphold quality
standard for the better image of the company. A sense of “accept” and “respect” is
seen.

PROCESS OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The main objective of the project is to study the presence of
organisational behaviour at GOOGLE .

The objectives realized by understanding the factors :

o A creative work environment is built within the Google

Community which leads to collaboration and disruptive
innovation.

o There are no hard boundaries within teams with a very flat

organizational hierarchy.
o Transparency in operations is what is critical to creating trust,
this is what eventually leads to collaboration.

Scope of the study:

Organizational behaviour is essentially an interdisciplinary approach to
study human behaviour at work. It tries to integrate the relevant
knowledge drawn from related disciplines like psychology, sociology and
anthropology to make them applicable for studying and analysing
organizational behaviour.

Proper understanding of organizational behaviour can result in many positive

effects on the organization and its employees. It also studies how people
behave in and around the workplace. However, when we talk about the scope of
organizational behaviour, it extends to only three significant concepts.
The three concepts are given below.

 Individual Behaviour
 Inter-Individual Behaviour
 Group Behaviour
Individual Behaviour:

As the name itself suggests, an individual is studied from the personality,

motivation, interests, and attitudes of an organization. Various interaction
sessions and one-to-one are conducted to understand and study the individual
and make a perception about them.

Inter-Individual Behaviour:
Now, the inter-individual concept is when communication happens among the
employees. Inter-individuals represent persons with their social group,
subordinates, or senior employees in the workplace. It helps understand
leadership styles and qualities and helps resolve conflicts quickly if any arise in
the group dynamics.
Here the study of the formation of an organization is done. The areas looked
into can be the structure of the organization, effectiveness in the organization,
etc. The efforts made by a group to achieve the objectives or goals of an
organization are what group behaviour is all about. The behaviour of everyone
who is a part of the group is considered.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

 Knowledge and techniques can be used to manipulate people unethically
 People who lack ethical values could use people in unethical ways.
 Organisational behaviour is supportive and oriented toward human
resources.
 Seeks to improve human environment and help people grow toward their
potential.
 Ethical leadership principles such as social responsibility ,open
communication ,cost benefit analysis.

RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY
Organizational Behavior Research Methodology works to understand and
find the solution of difficult workplace problems, and effectively apply
OB techniques for the effective management of human behavior in
organizations.
The understanding and effective application of organizational
behavior depends on a rigorous research methodology.

The search for the truth of why people behave the way they do is a very
delicate and complicated process.

SOURCES OF DATA COLLECTION :

There are two sources of data collection and they are ;

1.Primary source of data

2.Secoundary source of data

PRIMARY SOURCE OF DATA:

Surveys
Polls
Delphi technique
Statistical Methods
Interview
Focus groups

SECOUNDARY SOURCE OF DATA :

Financial reports
Sales reports
Government reports
Mission
Vision statement
Internet

SAMPLE SIZE: A Work sampling is the statistical technique used for

determining the proportion of time spent by workers in various defined
categories of activity (e.g. setting up a machine, assembling two parts, idle…etc.).
TECHNIQUES OF DATA ANALYSIS : Since the rising of
experience sampling method in management research, more
theoretical situations have been verified, and a new dynamic
embodiment of the idea of "people-oriented" and the foundation of
scientific operation of relevant mechanisms of enterprises.
