INTRODUCTION
I will discuss occupational health and safety in the conventional milling workshop and
in this report I will state the background of conventional milling as well as the
dangers and risks that can occur in the workshop
A Milling Machine is one of the Cutting Tool Machines that are commonly used by
Industrial factories or companies that have certain production machines as a tool to
repair and develop Production Machines.
The following are examples of the function or use of milling machines in industrial
factories, among others:
To level the surface of workpieces that are uneven due to Gas Cutting cuts or
due to unevenness from the physical shape of the workpieces, both metallic
and non-metallic.
To make a key way groove on the shaft of the workpiece
To form a Work Item into a specific Field Work Item.
To make a square hole in the workpiece.
The way the Milling Machine works is the Milling Eye or End Mill rotates clockwise or
counterclockwise at a certain speed as needed and the Milling Machine has a Slide
that can move to the right, to the left, up and down.
OBJECTIFE
To describe the risks that can arise in the conventional milling workshop
To explain how to avoid or deal with risks in the conventional milling workshop
To find issues in the conventional milling workshops
To prevent injuries from developing as a result of existing hazards
To be able to explain the methodologies used to analyse and evaluate the
risk of the identified hazards.
METHODOLOGY
Explain the method of identifying hazard at your selected workplace
The way I went about identifying the risks I created was to visit the
workshop and look for risks that could affect lecturers and students if
not immediately addressed or avoided.
Students may sustain injuries from iron pieces, such as finger injuries when
attempting to operate machinery, if they are not washed or cleaned.Next, Students
or lecturers may slip or fall as a result of a slippery floor, which is the second effect.
For instance, student may sprint or chase after their companions while stepping on a
greasy or slick floor, falling and hitting their heads on the ground. The last factor that
can contribute to an accident in the workshop is the possibility of oil spills and slick,
greasy flooring due to improperly stored oil or grease barrels. Additionally, unstored
oil and grease drums can make the workshop appear crowded and untidy, as well as
filthy and untidy.
RESULT
Select three most hazard potentially occurs at the workplace:
RECOMMENDATION
Suggest the control measures to eliminate or raduce the three potential hazards:
Iron shavings not cleaned thoroughly
Lecturers must monitor students to clean the machine area after using the
machine, lecturers can also take action against students if students do not
keep the machine clean or do not wash the machine they have used.
When leaving the workshop, students must ensure that the workshop
floor is clean and that there is no oil spill on the floor which can cause the floor
to be slippery which can cause students or lecturers to slip.
Workshop supervisors should prepare a special store for oil barrels or grease
barrels so that oil does not spill onto the workshop floor and the workshop
looks neat and orderly
