Question 1

Fig. 1 shows the structural plan of 30x22 m2 Hospital building whith a slab thickness 22cm supporting on
a given concrete walls and columns. The building lies at earthquake zone 3 in Egypt (the peak ground
acceleration=0.15g) in weak soil (soil type D). the building total height = 36m (floor height 3m). All shear
walls w1 having (30x1100 cm), W2 having (30x600 cm) in dimensions. The live load = 400 kg/m2, floor
cover 150 kg/m2, brick walls = 150kg/m2 , using horizontal design spectrum for elastic analysis in
earthquake design, it is required to

a) Determine the baseshear force in Y-Y Direction and its Distribution along the building height.
b) Calculate the bending moment at base level.
