Carpentary Workshop Report Week 4

Marking out and punching are important carpentry skills. The document describes a carpentry workshop where students learned to mark wood for joints using tools like pencils, gauges, and squares. They then punched mortises using a hollow chisel after precisely marking lines. Mastering these techniques helps produce quality woodwork and improves civil engineering students' carpentry abilities.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

For the beginning of march, we still continued our project at carpentary

workshop. We get the opportunity to apply the marking out and punching
skills in this project. On that day, we can handle the carpentary machine
such radial arm saw and hollow chisel ourself without teach by En
Kamarudin.

1.1 OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this week:

1) To mark the line on the different wood size to make tenon and
mortise with carpentary tools usage.

2) To sharpen the skill in marking using carpentary hand tools based

on the right techniques.

3) To punch the wood to make mortise using carpentary machine.

4) To learn the skill of punching according to marking line.

1.2 MARKING OUT

 Marking is the process of transferring or drawing a design or

pattern on the surface of a material.
 It is essential in order to precisely cut various shapes, such as
holes.
 The first step is drawing which is set where the cuts and holes with
dimensions and the edges.
 For this project, we have two size of wood which is 1.5 x 1.5 inch
and 2 x 2.5 inch to be cuts and holes.

1.5 x 1.5inch wood

2 x 2.5inch wood

1.3 PUNCHING

 Punching is the process make an indentation or hole in a hard

surface ( wood ).
 This process happen after we do marking line on the wood surface
based to the plan.
 We have to use hollow chisel for this process to make hole.
 We must to adjust the punch point to the marking line on the wood
surface before we start drill to make mortise
1.4 CONCLUSION

In conclusion, marking out and punching are some skills that civil
engineering students have to mastered it during the carpentary work.It is
useful to produce the best product from wood and improve our quality
work in the future.

Moreover , civil engineering student must to know how to use carpentry

machine and be more confidence to handle it . It can simplify and
decrease time in cutting and punching process in carpentary work.
