PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learners should be able to develop a written plan and implement a
“Newton’s Olympics”
LEARNING COMPETENCY The learners should be able to investigate the relationship between the
amount of force applied and the mass of the object to the amount of
change in objects motion.
(S8FE-Ia-15)
LEARNING OBJECTIVES The students should be able to:
Day: MONDAY
I. Subject Matter Module I: FORCES AND MOTION
A. Topic Lesson 1: BALANCED AND UNBALANCED FORCES
B. Science Process Skills Explain and Execute
C. Value Integration Showing interest and cooperation during the teaching process
II. Learning Materials Pictures, TV , laptop, worksheets
A. References MELCs, Google.com, Grade 8 LM, Grade 8 TG
B. Motivation
Note:
Forces occur in pairs and can be either balanced or unbalanced.
Balanced forces don’t cause a change in motion. They are equal in
magnitude or size in opposite directions.
Unbalanced forces always cause a change in motion. They are not
equal in magnitude or size in opposite directions.
An unbalance force is also called a net force.
D. Analysis Prepare a toy car with a string then ask the students:
1.What will happen when you pull an object?
(It will move towards us.)
2.What will happen when you push an object?
(It moves away)
3.What will happen when you push or pull an object at rest on its
opposite sides with equal forces?
(It doesn’t move)
Show the students a toy car placed on a table. Ask a student to push
the car towards right with your one hand. In which direction does the
car move?
(Car moves towards right).
Ask the same student: Now push the car towards left with your other
hand. In which direction does the car move now?
(Car moves towards left)
Now ask to push the car towards right with one hand and at the same
time push it towards left with the other hand. What will be the motion of
car?
(Car doesn’t move).
Note: Draw out the result that if two forces acting on a body produce no
motion in it, the forces are said to be balanced. If the two forces
produce motion in the body, the forces are said to be unbalanced. If two
forces balance each other, they must be equal and opposite in
directions.
E. Abstractions What have you learned today ?
About the Lesson •When two forces acting on a body produce no motion in it, the force are said
to be balanced.
•When two forces acting on a body produce motion in it, the forces are said to
be unbalanced.
•If two forces balance each other, they must be equal and opposite in
directions.
F. Application Show pictures of situations happening around them and let the students tell
whether the forces acting on the object balance or unbalance.
1.When two forces acting on the body in opposite direction and produce no
motion, the force is said to be_____________.
a. Balance b. Unbalance c. Gravity
2.When two forces acting on the body in opposite and produce motion, the
force is said to be _______.
a.Balance b. Unbalance c. Gravity
3.Which of the following will happen if two forces in opposite direction with
equal magnitude acts on the object?
a. The object will move.
B. The object will not move.
c. The object will move then stops.
d. The object will be acted by different forces.
4.Which of the following will happen if two forces in opposite direction with
different magnitude acts on the object?
a. The object will move to the direction of force with higher magnitude
b. The object will not move to the direction of the force with lower magnitude
c. The object will not move eventually.
d. The object remains stationary.
H. Assignment Ask the students to write situation/ examples where the presence of
other forces is beneficial.
