Chapter 03 Prelecture Assignment

Due: 8:59pm on Thursday, March 16, 2023
You will receive no credit for items you complete after the assignment is due. Grading Policy

Prelecture Feedback Question Chapter 3

Part A
What section of your assigned reading did you find the most confusing? What concepts would you like the instructor to
explain in lecture? What material was most interesting?

ANSWER:

3454 Character(s) remaining

I found the part about vectors to be the most difficult. I would

appreciate more help understanding how calculus is used to relate
position, velocity, and acceleration. I found the practical applications
of position, velocity, and acceleration to be really cool, like how
they're used in designing vehicles or understanding the physics of
sports.

Part A
At what angle, above the horizon, should a cannon be fired in order for the cannon ball to obtain the greatest horizontal
range? Assume air resistance is negligible.
ANSWER:

The cannon should be fired at an angle of 30° above the horizon.

The cannon should be fired at an angle of 45° above the horizon.

The cannon should be fired vertically, at an angle of 90° above the horizon.

The cannon should be fired at an angle of 60° above the horizon.

Correct

Prelecture Concept Question 3.05

Part A
A player kicks a soccer ball in a high arc toward the opponent's goal. When the soccer ball reaches its maximum height,
how does its speed at this point compare to its initial speed? Assume air resistance is negligible.
ANSWER:

The speed at its highest point cannot be determined unless the angle at which the soccer ball is kicked is
known.

The speed at its highest point is equal to its initial speed.

The speed at its highest point is less than its initial speed.

The speed at its highest point is zero.

The speed at its highest point is greater than its initial speed.

Correct

Prelecture Concept Question 3.06

Part A
A football player kicks a football in a field goal attempt. When the football reaches its maximum height, what is the
relationship between the direction of the velocity and acceleration vectors? Assume air resistance is negligible.

ANSWER:

03/04/2023, 03:42 Chapter 03 Prelecture Assignment

At the maximum height, the velocity and acceleration vectors are perpendicular to each other.

At the maximum height, the velocity and acceleration vectors are parallel to each other.

At the maximum height, both the velocity and acceleration vectors are zero.

At the maximum height, the velocity and acceleration vectors point in opposite directions.

Correct

Prelecture Concept Question 3.07

Part A

velocity? Assume air resistance is negligible.

ANSWER:

The horizontal component of the projectile's velocity initially decreases and then increases.

The horizontal component of the projectile's velocity continually decreases.

The horizontal component of the projectile's velocity remains a nonzero constant.

The horizontal component of the projectile's velocity continually increases.

The horizontal component of the projectile's velocity is zero.

off the bridge from the same height. Compare the time of fall for the two balloons. Assume air resistance is negligible.

ANSWER:

The red water balloon hits the ground first.

The time of fall depends on the amount of water placed in each of the balloons.

The yellow balloon hits the ground first.

The two balloons hit the ground at the same time.

03/04/2023, 03:42 Chapter 03 Prelecture Assignment

The location of the plane with respect to the package will depend on the initial height of the plane when the
package was released.

The plane will be located behind the package.

The plane will be located directly above the package.

The plane will be located ahead of the package.
