5. Mr Chin’s monthly salary is $2450. He spends $1600 and saves the rest.
a. How long will it take to save $17 000 if he saves the same amount for each
month?

b. Mr Chin puts all $17 000 into a savings account which has an interest rate of
4%. What is his bank balance after 3 years?

6. A car consumes fuel at a rate of 6 litres per 100 kilometres. Tracy is travelling down
to Bunbury this weekend, which is a 174 kilometre journey.
a. How much fuel will Tracy’s car need?

b. If Tracy drives a car with a 9.4 litre fuel tank, will Tracy have to refill on the
way down?
