The assignment will be assessed via a written report (100% of the marks of the module).
You are required to write an report of no more than 4,000 words (excluding appendices,
references and bibliography lists).
Choose a topic that is relevant to Operations and Supply Chain Management with special
emphasis on understanding the role of emerging technologies like big data analytics
capability, Block Chain technology, Internet of Things, Drone technology, Cyber security,
Visualisation, and other applications of information technology in improving supply chain
performance.
Examples of topics include but are not limited to those as follows:
The impact of supply chain visibility on supply chain collaboration under moderating
effects of supply chain analytics;
Understanding the role of big data analytics capability on improving agility in supply
chain;
Understanding the role of big data analytics capability and block chain technology on
supply chain resilience;
How big data analytics capability and block chain technology can power circular
economy;
How big data and predictive analytics capability may help improve the supply chain
performance;
How block chain technology can help address the current challenges of the
developing countries in managing COVID-19 vaccine supply chain?
Role of culture and supply chain leadership in shaping supply chain analytics
environment

Besides choosing a topic, you also need to find and discuss the case study of a company
engaged with the topic you have selected. The case study needs to be contained in an
academic journal or publication such a published book.
Re-sit Note:
In the case of re-sitting, the student will NOT be allowed to work on the same topic/case study
application, although the structure will remain the same. The student will have to select a new
topic/case study application for his/her re-sit, which has not been selected for any other
module in the programme.
With your report you must be able to give an answer to the following questions:
What’s the topic you’ve chosen and what specific issue within that topic are you
focusing on?
Why the topic is relevant and which challenges nowadays companies face in relation
to it?
What is the extant body of knowledge about the topic you have selected?
What are the recent trends in academic research associated to the topic?
How did the case company engage with the topic? What sort of challenges did the
company have to confront?
How (if applicable) did the company obtain tangible benefits from the overcoming of
the challenges?
What are the lessons learned from the experience of the case study for generating an
impact for academics and practitioners?
In your assignment clearly demonstrate link between theories and practices using
relevant examples where appropriate.
What suggestions and recommendations could you provide to improve existing
challenges?
In choosing the topic and industry, you might want to consider the following factors:
Topic that you are familiar with or perhaps would like to know more about
There should be sufficient information about company on the chosen topic

Learning Outcomes
The module has the following Learning Outcomes:
LO1: Demonstrate a systematic understanding of relevant theories at the forefront of the
discipline that contribute to supply chain analytics
LO2: Critically and originally assess the role of information management and relevant
technologies in supply chains working individually and in groups
LO3: Exhaustively apply capabilities and skills in advanced quantitative methods, including
big data, text mining, social media mining, data quality and cleansing, data visualisation and
neural networks
LO4: Formulate critical solutions to problems through the application of modelling techniques
that rely on statistical software packages in an original and self-directed way
LO5: Critically debate and analyse how data scientists/supply chain analysts create supply
chain value through an appropriate management of information and data
e-submission is the approved method for your HUBS programme of study.
You must hand in your assessed Assignment(s), for all modules that you are
taking during the 2022/2023 Academic Year using the Canvas system.
Submission of a printed copy is NOT allowed. You should submit via the
Assignments menu item on the relevant module Canvas site.
