c. What does the indicate?

It indicates that there are subdirectories within the main directory. It can be expanded.

d. What does the indicate?

It indicates that it cannot be expanded.

3. What is a file management utility? Give 2 examples we have on our network. (3 marks)

A file management utility groups your files and documents into sections. Two examples that we have are Public$

(\\tcdsbfiler) (P:), and netapps(\\SBS01) (N:).

4. What type of files do the following extensions represent? (7 marks)

doc Microsoft Word File

xls Microsoft Excel File

pptx PowerPoint Open XML presentation

accdb Access Database file

6. Distinguish between the “Save” and “Save As” features. (2 marks-C)

Save is the same copy updated but save as is naming the document and creates another one.

7. Accurately list the process to find misplaced files on your computer. (1 mark-C)

You can open file explorer or Finder for MAC. Then you can use the search bar which looks into all of your

folders and subfolders. You can search up the exact name of your lost file, extension, or something relatively

similar to the name and all the suggested files will show up. From there, you are able to access your lost files.

Sometimes they may also be in your recycling/trash bin or archives.

8. Distinguish between “moving” and “copying” a file from one location to another. (2 marks-C)

Moving a file is re-locating it or transferring it to another location (there is still one soft copy). Copying a file

creates a duplicate or another identical soft copy.

When you have successfully logged into your network space, organize it by creating folders for each of your
courses. Add other folders as you deem necessary throughout the term. Show your teacher.
