What is Art?
Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, but it is even more
personal than that: it's about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an
extension of personality. It is the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully
portrayed by words alone.
All art is a kind of confession, more or less oblique. All artists, if they are to survive, are forced,
at last, to tell the whole story; to vomit the anguish up.
Art is standing with one hand extended into the universe and one hand extended into the world,
and letting ourselves be a conduit for passing energy.
Art will remain the most astonishing activity of mankind born out of struggle between wisdom
and madness, between dream and reality in our mind.
Art criticism is responding to, interpreting meaning, and making critical judgments about specific
works of art. Art critics help viewers perceive, interpret, and judge artworks. Critics tend to focus
more on modern and contemporary art from cultures close to their own.
