1.What is a tap root?


Ans: In tap roots , the main root grows vertically downwards into the soil.
It has many smaller and thinner roots called root hair along the sides.
1. What are biennials plants ?
Ans: Flowering plants that complete their lifecycle in two years are called
biennials . In the first year,these plants produce leaves and in the second year,
their flowers bloom.
2. Name two plants that have storage roots and two plants that have
fibrous roots.
Ans: Two plants that have storage roots are radish plant and carrot plant.
V. Answer in detail
1. What are the functions of roots ?
Ans
 Roots hold the plant firmly to the ground.
 They prevent the plant from getting uprooted by strong winds or storms.
 Roots bind the soil and prevent the soil from being blown away by wind
or washed away by water.
 Roots help a plant to absorb water and minerals from the soil.

2.How do breathing roots help plants?


Ans: Breathing roots are found in plants that grow in salty water
and marshy regions . The soil in these regions has little air. The soil in these
regions has little air . Therefore , the roots of these plants grow vertically
above the water to absorb air. Mangroves have breathing roots.
3.Name three uses of flowers and give two examples each.
Ans:
Flowers are useful to us in many ways .
Some flowers such as broccoli , cauliflower and moringa flower(drumstick)
are eaten as vegetables.
Hibiscus , chrysanthemum, rose , chamomile and basil flowers are used as
tea.
Some flowers such as cloves , saffron and capers are used as spices.

VI. Hots
Everyday you see a tree while going to school , you noticed a flower blooming
in the tree. After few days you find some changes in the flower. Now can you
tell me what happened to that flower ?

Ans: The flower started to grow as a fruit.
