1. What role do X-rays play in modern medicine, and how will they be used in the future?
________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________
X-rays have been an essential tool in the medical field since their discovery
in 1895 by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen. Roentgen was
experimenting with cathode rays when he noticed a fluorescent screen nearby
began to glow even though it was not in the path of the rays. He concluded
that a new type of ray was being produced, which he called X-rays.
Soon after their discovery, X-rays became an important tool for doctors, allowing them
to see inside the human body without the need for surgery. X-ray machines were large and
dangerous in the early years. Doctors and patients were often exposed to high levels of
radiation, leading to several health problems. However, as the technology improved, X-rays
became safer and more widely used.
By the 1920s, X-ray technology had advanced, so doctors could use it to diagnose various
medical conditions, including bone fractures. During World War II, X-rays were used to detect
injuries in soldiers, and the technology continued to improve in the following decades.
Today, X-rays are an essential tool in the medical field, used for everything from diagnosing
broken bones to detecting cancer. They are also used in dentistry to detect dental cavities
and other dental problems. While X-rays are generally safe, patients are still exposed to a small
amount of radiation, which can be harmful if they receive too many X-rays quickly. Knowing
the risks, doctors and dentists use X-rays to diagnose different medical conditions quickly and
accurately. X-rays may become safer and more effective with technological advances.
X-rays have improved since their discovery over a century ago. Unlike the early ones,
today's X-ray machines are safe, reliable, and widely used in medicine. X-rays have changed
how doctors and dentists diagnose and treat many medical conditions.
