    Performance Task: Evaluating Sustainability and Affordability of Menstrual Products

    Because of how cheap sanitary pads are, they’re
    Sanitary Pads considered to be one of the most used menstrual
    products. They’re easily disposable and
    sustainable.

    Tampons are the second most used product.


    Tampons Like pads, they’re also cheap, made of cotton,
    and/or rayon.

    Menstrual cups are made of flexible silicon or


    Menstrual latex rubber. These are more expensive and less
    cups sustainable due to it being made of rubber or
    silicone.

    They work like sanitary pads; except they can


    be used more than once. Because of its
    Cloth pads
    reusability, this is easily one of the most
    sustainable menstrual products available.

    Period panties are a mix of regular panties and


    Period sanitary napkins. They’re meant to replace pads
    panties and tampons. However, they’re more expensive
    but reusable.

    Advantages and disadvantages of each product:


    1. Sanitary pads – Advantages: cheap, easily disposable
    Disadvantages: uncomfortable, smelly
    2. Tampons – Advantages: comfortable, very cheap, disposable, odorless
    Disadvantages: increases the risk of TTS, not eco-friendly
    3. Menstrual cups – Advantages: affordable, safer than tampons, eco-friendly.
    Disadvantages: hard to insert/remove, may cause irritation
    4. Cloth pads – Advantages: reusable, comes in many designs, sustainable
    Disadvantages: expensive, leaves stain even when cleaned
    5. Period panties – Advantages: thinner than pads, reusable, sustainable, odorless
    Disadvantages: very expensive
