India’s electric vehicles (EV) market is the third-largest in terms of number of companies, next only to
the US and China, and the fourth-highest funded market in this space.
The Budget exemption for Customs duty on capital goods and machinery for manufacture of EV
batteries, and the duty cut on lithium batteries from 21 per cent to 13 per cent will lower prices and
boost investment in the industry.
The total funding in this segment has increased by 117 per cent, from $766mn in 2021 to $1.66bn in
2022.
5.2 lakh CSCs, 1.5 lakh India Post Offices being trained to support last-mile sellers, buyers on GeM:

According to the information provided by the government, over 5.2 lakh Common Service Centers
[CSC] and around 1.5 lakh India Post offices across the country are being trained to boost the adoption
of the public procurement portal Government eMarketplace (GeM).
GeM has signed a memorandum of understanding with Common Service Centre e-Governance
Services India (CSC-SPV) and the Department of Post for the advocacy, outreach, mobilization, and
capacity-building of last-mile government buyers, sellers and service providers in public
procurement through the GeM portal.

Azad Engineering Private Limited, a Hyderabad-based market leader in precision engineering, has
been approved as the first Indian company to supply critical rotating parts for nuclear turbines.
The company has delivered its first set of critical parts. These will now be assembled on nuclear turbines
manufactured in Belfort, France.
Azad Engineering has signed a long-term supply agreement with General Electric (GE) Steam
Power for the supply of nuclear turbineparts.

Amit Shah Laid Foundation For ₹ 450 Crore Nano Urea Plant In Jharkhand
Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of a ₹ 450-crore nano urea plant and township
of the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) in Jharkhand's Deoghar.
This will be India's fifth nano urea plant. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's first nano
urea plant in Gujarat in 2022.
Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority (JIADA) has allotted 20 acres of land to IFFCO
for the complex in Jasidih area in Deoghar district.

The government’s Credit Guarantee Scheme (CGS), which facilitates collateral-free credit flow to
micro and small enterprises under Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises
(CGTMSE), has approved 8.43 lakh loan guarantees involving Rs 71,843 crore during the nine-month
period (April-December) of the current fiscal, surpassing the entire FY22 and FY21 figures.
Moreover, 8.35 lakh guarantees amounting to Rs 36,899 crore were approved in FY21 followed by
7.17 lakh guarantees involving Rs 56,171 crore approved in FY22.

The Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) was launched by the
Government of India to make available collateral-free credit to the micro and small enterprise sector. Both the
existing and the new enterprises are eligible to be covered under the scheme.
Rs 3.60 lakh crore ECLGS loans sanctioned to MSMEs, others till December 2022: MSME Ministry
The government’s flagship credit support scheme of Rs 5 lakh crore for MSMEs, the Emergency
Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) has sanctioned or issued 1,19,27,348 loans (borrowers)
involving Rs 3,60,539 crore as of December 31, 2022, as per data from the National Credit
Guarantee Trustee Company (NCGTC) which provides guarantee coverage to member lending
institutions under the scheme.
Small businesses were sanctioned maximum credit of Rs 90,846 crore across 5.51 lakh loans.
In comparison, micro enterprises were sanctioned Rs 84,031 crore in credit even as the loan volume
was 19 times higher at 1.05 crore.
States with the highest number of ECLGS loans sanctioned in FY23 till December-end were Andhra
Pradesh (1.90 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (91,908), Rajasthan (50,055), Maharashtra (45,269), and Tamil
Nadu (Rs 43,312).

Indian men's hockey team chief coach Graham Reid resigned
Indian men's hockey team chief coach Graham Reid resigned from his position.
Reid was appointed India coach in April 2019, led the team to a historic bronze medal finish at the
Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The 58-year-old Australian submitted his resignation to Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey, a day after
the conclusion of the World Cup in Bhubaneswar, where Germany beat Belgium in a penalty shoot-out to
emerge as champions.
