Web Quest – Art

5th Grade
How can Art be interpreted in our United States history?
Introduction: Our amendments are what make up our country, however, do we all view them the
same? Throughout this activity, we will learn about our different amendments and their
meaning.
Task: The teacher will present the students with an amendment; the students will have to write a
summary of what they believe their amendment means and the student will create an art
illustration about what that amendment meant to them. Finally, they will then have to create a
mind map about their thinking process.
Process:
1. The student will receive an amendment at random.
2. The student will create a summary of what that amendment means to them, and how they
interpret it.
3. The student will create a mind map using mindmap.com describing their thought process.
4. Students will create an art illustration using canva.com that portrays how they interpreted
the amendment.
5. Students will create a mind map using mindmap.com that states their thought process
from the beginning to the end of the activity.
Evaluation:
1. Completion of illustration
2. The illustration reflects what the summary stated.
3. Completion of the mind map.
Conclusion:
The students will learn about different amendments and will have the opportunity to personalize
their illustrations. Students were given the opportunity and freedom to interpret the amendment
to their own beliefs and understand what the amendments are to our country. Students developed
their critical thinking skills and developed their creative thinking skills. Students were evaluated
with the correlation of work and completion of work.

reasoned evaluations. The student is expected to:
(A) evaluate the elements of art, principles of design, general intent, media, and techniques, or
expressive qualities in artworks of self, peers, or historical and contemporary artists;

ISTE Standards for Students: 1.4.a Students know and use a deliberate design process for
generating ideas, testing theories, creating innovative artifacts, or solving authentic problems.
