with Jean Stone Specialising in weaving with natural fibres. Learn to make beautiful baskets, chair seats, hats etc. A sample basket can be seen in the glass display cabinet at the House. with Christine Gibbins Rubber stamping is a fast, effective and cheap way to create home made cards and gifts. In this class, participants will use stamping techniques and punches to construct a waterfall card as well as create an amazing scratch n sniff card!! Class is suitable for all levels of stamping/papercraft experience. Students will need to provide a pair of scissors suitable to cutting paper and, if available, a cutting mat, knife and ruler. with Echo Wu Join Echo to learn the free style flower-and-bird Chinese painting. No previous experience is required. You will learn the basic brush strokes, techniques, and use of water, ink and colours on rice paper to draw different themes. Flowers, plants, birds, animals and rocks are the topics covered. Every lesson will start with a demonstration of the object that the students are learning, followed by students own practise. The students are encouraged to do homework, and each piece of work will be commented and corrected in the following lesson. In order to build a good foundation, Chinese calligraphy will be taught in the class for the student to better understand the techniques of executing lines. with Phil Wright Join the growing number of people, who enjoy making their own stained glass panels and gifts, using the craft techniques of leadlighting and copper foiling. As a beginner you will be taught the basic steps, which include glass cutting, construction and finishing techniques, by completing a class project ($7.00 to tutor for materials) either in lead or copper foil. You will then move on to creating your own project where elements of design and glass choice will be taught. Construction techniques for making mirrors, lamps, boxes, and sun-catchers will also be taught. Information and advice on the correct cutting tool for each beginner student will be provided at the first lesson, as well as, information on the various methods, techniques, materials and tools used in this craft. This fun, hands on craft, provides limitless possibilities for creating beautiful items as gifts or to decorate your home. Plus $7.00 material fee f or beginner students to be given direct to tutor. with Deb Slinger In this workshop you can choose a blank transparet shape, heart, circle or rectangle then make you own transparetn mosaic mobile. By adding stunning opaque and clear glass pieces an amazing piece of art is created. No previous mosaic experience is required. Everyone will be introduced to simple tools and the techniques that will have them making a colourful indoor/outdoor piece. Creative Framing This seminar is arranged in an Open Forum format where we demonstrate all the techniques and you get to ask all the questions you can think of! Some topics which will be covered are: needlework framing, creative mount cutting techniques, shadow boxes, memorabilia framing, arcs & scallop cutting with the m/master circle cutter, double & instep mounts and freehand v-grooving and carving. It is recommended beginners attend the Introduction to Picture Framing class before attempting this more advanced workshop. Morning tea, a light lunch and afternoon tea will be provided. Our Child Care is registered with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development as a Limited Hours Type 2 Licence. Child Care is available Monday to Friday between 9.00am - 12 noon during the school term. An Australian music programme for young children, which enhances childrens development, while they are having fun. Games, singing, dancing and playing percussion instruments, stimulate the childrens creativity and imagination. Playgroup provides the opportunity for pre-school children to learn through play and interaction with other children and adults, whilst for parents/carers, playgroups create the opportunity to share ideas, relax and socialise with other parents and carers. Vermont South Community House has a fully equipped computer lab. There are twelve student computers and one tutor computer that are connected to broadband internet. Other facilities include access to a scanner and printers. A data projector provides a valuable teaching aid. The computers are dual boot with the operating systems being Windows XP and Windows 7, which was installed in April 2010. .
with Loretto Campbell This Certificate from the Information Technology Training Package provides training in the most popular computer software programs Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint as well as Windows, the Internet and Email (see Information Booklet for full list of Units of Competency). The qualification provides computer literacy and foundation skills for using a computer in any industry or activity. The certificate will be issued on successful assessment of 3 core units plus 3 elective units Students are asked to enrol in semester blocks (16 weeks). It is anticipated that a student, attending one class per week, would take approximately 5-6 terms to complete the full certificate.

with Jack Bramham Do you have friends locally or overseas and you can never seem to call each other when you are both home. Are interstate and International phone calls costing you money, then you need to install Skype on your computer. Skype is a VOIP service (Voice Over IP) this means you can talk, transfer files and even see the person at the other end all for free. If you purchase some Skype credits, this will enable you, from your computer to call a phone number either locally or overseas at very cheap rates. Students will be taken through the various setup stages of the program, including creating your own account (if you dont already have one) then you will actually be able to participate in a conference call with the rest of the class and test out many of the features of the program. VINYL TO CD
with Jack Bramham Students will be shown how to connect a turntable and a cassette player to a computer. Then by using simple software record the audio and do a minor repair to remove the clicks, pops, rumble and tape hiss from the recording. To reduce the cost of doing the transfer, the hardware and software will be kept to a minimum. For the recording and editing of the transferred audio, Audacity, a freeware (open source) package will be used. Other programs such as Groove Mechanic, Sonys Sound Forge and various other non freeware packages will be demonstrated. Students will also be shown how to convert the saved audio files to other output formats such as wav, cda & mp3. This course is only intended to provide basic information and aimed at someone who has been thinking of transferring old records and tapes but does not know where to start. HOUSE MEMBERSHIP Joining a local Neighbourhood or Community House as a member provides an opportunity to expand your interests and build lifelong friendships, while working towards improving the local community and the environment. Vermont South Community House involves itself in local interests while also enjoying the opportunity to network locally, regionally, more widely through state organisations and nationally. Having a solid membership base is vital for the sustainability and growth of any organisation. Members help strengthen the Community House in a variety of ways - from volunteering in many areas within the House, participating in fundraising/social activities and local projects, by enrolling in courses and activities, through to governance by becoming a member of the Committee of Management or a Sub Committee/Working Party. ENROLMENT FORM Students enrolling in an ACFE funded course will be required to complete an enrolment form and provide full details including country of birth, language spoken at home and education history. All other students will be asked to provide their name, address and contact details and date of birth (optional) for our statsistcal records. FEES All fees are to be paid prior to class commencement. Cheques should be made payable to Vermont South Community House. We also accept on-line banking payments. Please ask the office staff for account details. Please note that some classes are on going classes and may have only limited vacancies. REFUNDS (see policy for full details) If a course is cancelled due to insufficient numbers, a full refund will be given. Where a session is cancelled due to tutor illness etc, a replacement class or refund will be given. A full refund will be given when a participant cancels the booking 5 working days prior to the commencement of the course. If a participant commences a course and is unable to continue due to extenuating circumstances a pro rata refund will be given. A refund will not be given for sessions not attended for non-extenuating circumstances. EMERGENCY CONTACT It would be appreciated if you could provide the office with an emergency name and contact number. Please note that in the case of a medical emergency, an ambulance will be called. PUBLIC HOLIDAYS Classes are not generally held on public holidays, however, if 100% of the class is willing and able to attend, arrangements for classes can be confirmed with the tutor and Office. TEA & COFFEE House participants are encouraged to share a cup of tea or coffee and we ask participants to wash and dry their dishes. Some rooms have dishwashers installed. Classes and groups are welcome to bring other food if desired. Many classes have end of term parties. BREAKAGES AND DAMAGE Please report all breakages and damage of furniture/property to the Office. Where possible, it would also be appreciated if people are able to offer to mend or repair breakages/damages.
