3.ATO.5 Apply proper(es of opera(ons (i.e., Commuta(ve Property of Mul(plica(on, Associa(ve Property of
Mul(plica(on, Distribu(ve Property) as strategies to mul(ply and divide and explain the reasoning.
Context:
This is a third-grade lesson in math this is a built up lesson. Your students have to have an understanding of
mul(plica(on but aKer this lesson they move on to things such as order of opera(on and they will con(nue to
Data:
Four data I like to group the students with different types of understanding so some really advance so I'm in the
middle in some below. This allows for the ones that are below to interact with the advanced students to learn from
peers and this gives the advanced kids an opportunity to really show their understanding by aiding others.

Introduc6on:
We always start our math lessons with a real life game showing how math is truly involved in everyday life and not
just something you do in school which could show kids that it is important to master and learn these skills. We use

I'm a start this lesson with a video shown on the Interac(ve Whiteboard in the front of the class from YouTube that
Teacher Directed:
I will direct a short but direct lesson on the whiteboard in the front of the class. I believe students should learn the
skills of note taking from a young age as user skills they are expected to know and build off. From the start of the
year the way we take notes is explained to them with an expecta(on of them to follow daily allowing them to have
a resource they can always look back on for ques(ons comple(ng homework and studying for a test. The lesson will
have defined terms for each of the proper(es with worked examples to fall back on for later use. Once we finish
our PowerPoint at the end there is an ac(vity to work as a group to score points and these points are used to figure
out at the end of the week which table is the table of the week for that week.
Independent Digital:
We have individual (me where we may have a project or work on an individual worksheet to master understanding
and we also use USA test prep for every lesson with anywhere from 10 to 20 ques(ons allowing students to be
exposed to ques(ons and their wording as you will see on the end of your test which they start taking in 3rd grade.
Closure:
our closure is a group ac(vity and then an individual ac(vity well they will be given 20 minutes to create a problem
and solve it for their given property to be hung up on our wall as in class sources for an example. Once they finish
that they have the (me to complete the interac(ve end of unit quiz.
