Important Factors of Qualitative Research

Qualitative Research is considered superior to Qualitative Research by many. Being

known as the natural way of researching, many researchers chose this method over others
because of the freedom it gives. There are strengths, weaknesses, and characteristics that are
taken into consideration when choosing a research method.

Qualitative Research is a research method used to gain the understanding of people’s

personal experience and perspective on something. One of its strengths is the in-depth
understanding that qualitative research gives to the researcher about the occurrence being
studied. Researchers really focus on understanding the perspective of participants, which can
lead to greater results of the said study. Qualitative research is usually conducted in a natural
setting unlike quantitative method, which provide in-depth understanding of the phenomenon by
being in the same environment as the participants. Qualitative method is very flexible, anything
can be changed by the researchers to adjust their approach to the study.

Now, let's move on to the weaknesses. The biases and assumptions of the researchers
can influence the study because they interpret their own findings. Understanding the
perspective of a large number of participants takes time, and because of this, qualitative
research is often conducted on a small number of participants, which limits the perspective of
the broader population. Unlike quantitative research, qualitative research consumes a great
amount of time because researchers need to talk to each participant individually to understand
their perspective deeply.

Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative research is important for

researchers to decide if it's the right approach for their research questions, collect credible data,
and get useful insights. It also helps to make sure the research is ethical and precise. Knowing
these factors can greatly help future researchers developing critical thinking skills, selecting
appropriate research methods, conducting ethical research, and analyzing data effectively.
Qualitative research involves different methods such as interviews, observations, case studies,
and focus groups to study a wide range of topics. Examples include understanding experiences
of cancer patients, studying peer relationships in a classroom, exploring attitudes towards
childbirth, and analyzing narratives of personal stories. Qualitative research is used in many
fields to gain insights into various phenomena.
