Exploring Graphs With The GDC

The document provides instructions for exploring and analyzing graphs of quadratic functions using a graphing calculator. It instructs the user to enter different quadratic equations into the function bar to graph them, then use tools to identify key features like the y-intercept, x-intercepts, vertex, axis of symmetry, and points that the graph passes through. Examples are given of analyzing the graphs of several quadratic functions according to the instructions.

Exploring graphs of quadratic functions

For each of the given equations:

● Select a new graph page

● Enter the equation into the function bar at the top of the screen (no need to type y=) e.g.

and press ENTER

● To change the window (𝑥 and 𝑦 axis) go to -> 1: Window Settings

(or A: Zoom Fit). Change the view until you can see the key features of the graph

● Go to to identify key features (1. Zero for 𝑥-intercepts; 2.

Minimum/3. Maximum for the vertex (depending on the nature)). Set the lower and upper bounds
for the calculator to search between.
● To identify coordinates the graph passes through, you can use

and view corresponding 𝑥 and 𝑦 values.
