Iidf-What-Why-When-Where-Who-How
WHAT IS IIDF?
IIDF is India International Dance Festival. The ONLY of its kind, it attempts to bring together
all dance traditions together on a single platform. IIDF is primarily by-of-for the dancers.
WHY IIDF?
It seeks to celebrate dance as a whole and without divisions of classical, folk, tribal, contemporary etc.
WHEN DOES IIDF HAPPEN?
It happens annually. IIDF was launched in Bhubaneswar City in Odisha in October 2015 as a travelling dance
festival. It was hosted in Bengaluru City in November 2016. In view of its rapidly rising popularity among dancers, it
was redesigned as a multi-city event in 2017 in order to create more platforms for dance and dancers across India.
It is scheduled to happen throughout the year in various cities.

WHO HOSTS IIDF?

IIDF is hosted by a committee and a community of dancers and dance-lovers as a self-help-group. It doesn’t wait
for any financial support from any agencies – Government, Corporate or sponsors.
The committee and community members join the festivals at different cities on their own. Organised as
economically as possible, the members share the expenditure with a small contribution that is NOT compulsory.
Appeals for financial support are being made to the dance institutions to be INSTITUTIONAL PATRONS. Thus,
IIDF-Bengaluru was managed by Sai Arts International and Nrityantar Academy of Performing Arts and there was
NO registration fee for the dancers-delegates. Similarly, IIDF-Pune was supported by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and
Infosys Foundation while IIDF-Mumbai was managed by resourced generated through crowd-funding.

WHERE IIDF IS BEING STAGED?

As a multi-city festival, IIDF has been scheduled to be hosted in Bengaluru-New Delhi-Hyderabad-Bhubaneswar-
Guwahati-Imphal-Thrissur-Siliguri-Kolkata-Baroda-Pune-Mumbai-Indore-Chennai-Puducherry-Bhopal.
