Concept Iidf
IIDF has been conceptualized to celebrate dance without divisions of tribal, folk, classical, contemporary, oriental,
and western and so on. It was launched in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha State in eastern India, in 2015.
The motto is to strengthen bonds among counties and cultures through dance and to bring all dance traditions and
styles together to a common platform. It seeks to strengthen global goodwill and international integration apart from
developing a cultural bond between India with the rest of the world through this gathering.
The event is being hosted by Samskritiki cultural society based in Bhubaneswar in association with several dance
institutions across India. The festival has been conceptualized by Shyamhari Chakra, a journalist and dance critic
who is the founder of Samskritiki cultural society and IIDF.
IIDF-BHUBANESWAR-2015
More than 200 delegates that included dancers, dance scholars and exponents of different dance styles from India
and abroad attended IIDF-Bhubaneswsar during October 25-27. The dance styles featured in IIDF-2015 were
Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam, Sattriya, Chhau, Vilasini Natyam,
Jhumar folk dance of Odisha and folk dances of the North-East including Ojapalli dance of Assam. Dancers and
dance researchers from Argentina, Japan, France, USA, Hong Kong, Muscat, China and Israel attended this
festival.
IIDF-BENGALURU-2016
The second edition of IIDF was hosted in 2016 in Bengaluru city by Samskritiki cultural society in association with
Sai Arts International, Nrityantar Academy of Performing Arts and Indira Nagar Sangeet Sabha, the three major
cultural institutions of the City, on November 19 and 20 at Indira Nagar Sangeet Sabha cultural complex. The two-
day festival focused on highlighting the young soloists of various Indian classical dance styles. Apart from several
prominent dance personalities of Bengaluru city, eminent dance historian Ashish Mohan Khokar, US-based
Mohiniattam exponent Sunanda Nair, Mumbai-based Nalanda Dance Research Centre’s director Uma Rele,
Assam’s Sangeet Natak Akademi award winner Sattriya exponent Anita Sarma were special invitees to the festival.
IIDF- BHUBANESWAR-2017
For the second time since 2015, Bhubaneswar City hosted IIDF from July 20 and 23 at Bhanja Kala Mandap
Cultural Complex of Odisha Government. It was attended by more than 250 dancers and delegates from India,
Australia, China, Thailand, Argentina, Japan, Singapore, USA, Dubai-Abu Dhabi-Sarijah (UAE).
IIDF-HYDERABAD-2017
Designed as a travelling dance festival, IIDF-2017 was hosted in the historic city of Hyderabad on November 3,4,5
following IIDF-2015 in Bhubaneswar and IIDF-2016 in Bengaluru. The Department of Art and Culture of
Government of Andhra Pradesh collaborated with IIDF and its Shilparamam Cultural Complex auditorium was
offered free of cost to host the three day event.
IIDF-Hyderabad showcased seven Indian classical dance traditions – Kathak, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, Manipuri,
Mohiniattam, Odissi, Sattriya – besides Kerala Natanam, gaudiya Nritya, folk dances of Madhya Pradesh and
contemporary dance. More than 100 dancers from various parts of India and from Malayasia, Singapore, Hong
Kong, USA, Dubai and Maritius participated. The festival further featured a talk on “Classical dance as a Career”
involving a number of young dancers, their gurus and parents/guardians. IIDF-Hyderabad was hosted collectively
by Samskritiki cultural society, Muvva Nritya Raaga Nigamam and Shilparamam of Hyderabad.
IIDF-MUMBAI-2018
IIDF-Mumbai was launched during March 2-3-4 at Urban Haat, CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai by host Samskritiki
Cultural Society in association with Aratrika Institute of Performing Arts, Mumbai. For the first time, IIDF received
support of the central Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi that sponsored Pung Cholam dancers and drummers
from Manipur. Shri Sekhar Sen, Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi inaugurated the festival. The
three-day festival was graced by a host of eminent dancers of Mumbai like Padma Sri Darshana Jhaveri who
delivered a talk on the evolution of Manipuri dance tradition.
The festival featured an exhibition of publications on dance and two lecture demonstrations on the evolution of
Kuchipudi and Manipuri.
IIDF-DELHI-2018
IIDF was launched at the national capital of India on April 14-15 at ICCR’s Azad Bhavan auditorium in New Delhi by
Samskritiki Cultural Society in association with Nrityadhara dance institute of Gurugram (Delhi). The festival was
supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and was attended by several eminent personalities
from the field of dance and arts like celebrated Indian dance critic Smt. Leela Venkatraman.

WHAT IS IIDF?
IIDF is India International Dance Festival. The ONLY of its kind, it attempts to bring together
all dance traditions together on a single platform. IIDF is primarily by-of-for the dancers.
WHY IIDF?
It seeks to celebrate dance as a whole and without divisions of classical, folk, tribal, contemporary etc.
WHEN DOES IIDF HAPPEN?
It happens annually. IIDF was launched in Bhubaneswar City in Odisha in October 2015 as a travelling dance
festival. It was hosted in Bengaluru City in November 2016. In view of its rapidly rising popularity among dancers, it
was redesigned as a multi-city event in 2017 in order to create more platforms for dance and dancers across India.
It is scheduled to happen throughout the year in various cities.
