TEACHING
MATHEMATICS
IN THE
INTERMEDIATE
GRADES

Estella Angel P. Banawan BEED-3

MODULE 2 MARCH 28, 2023
LESSON TITLE: MATHEMATICS IN THE
INTERMEDIATE GRADES
CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
 Numbers and Number Sense
 Geometry
 Patterns and Algebra
 Measurement
 Statistics and Probability

REFLECTION

In this lesson, I learned so much about the areas of

mathematics that can be taught in the intermediate
level. Perhaps the most important reason to study math
is because the study of mathematics builds problem
solving skills. We the citizens need to know the reason
and analytically think through a problem. The habits of
mind associated w/ learning mathematics trains our
brain to seek solutions in logical way.
MODULE 3 MARCH 28, 2023
LESSON TITLE: MATHEMATICS IN THE
INTERMEDIATE GRADES
CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
What do you think is the most important stage of the
learning cycle? Why do you think so?
For me, the most important stage of the learning cycle is
to identify the objectives. Because in this stage you
should know what knowledge and/or skills the students
need to learn. You must be guided by the content
standards, performance standards, and learning
competencies that are found in the curriculum guide.

REFLECTION

In this lesson, I learned the importance of knowing

the mathematics curriculum in the intermediate grades.
It provides the necessary prerequisites in learning
higher – level of mathematics.

CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
REFLECTION

In this lesson, I learned that it is important to know the

teaching cycle, us future teacher, it is a continuous
process and will give clarity to us and our learner, it
also contributes to the roles and responsibilities that
applies teachers.
MODULE 6 APRIL 8, 2023
LESSON TITLE: ADIDAS Model and 5Es Model
CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING

REFLECTION

In this lesson, I learned that there are many instructional

planning models that mathematics educators have
constructed. In this lesson, it gives ideas which is the
ADIDAS (Activity, Discussion, Input, Deepening,
Activity, Summary)

REFLECTION

Games give students opportunities to explore

fundamental number concepts such as the counting
sequence, one- to - one correspondence and
computation strategies.

LESSON TITLE: COLLABORATION
CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
Think-Pair Share:
Learners prepare a response to a text or prepare a piece of
work and then explain their ideas to a partner. After the
pairs have discussed the issue, they join with another pair,
share views and emerge with a group conclusion or
perspective.

LESSON TITLE: TEACHING BY ASKING
CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
1. If the class has a massive population. In order to
accommodate them and able to participate in the class. I
will call them all one by one. In these cases, I am not just
asking them questions but checking their understanding
about what we are discussing all about.
2. If the student hesitates to ask questions, I will simply
address or process the questions by giving them what
exactly they wanted to clarify.
3. I will simply ask them a follow up questions or recap
for the discussions.

LESSON TITLE: ASSESSING LEARNING
CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
1. My thoughts about this issue is that, grading is the best
for evaluating large amounts of student’s data – as when
the individual states need to assess their educational
systems – while assessment gives teachers a valuable tool
for measuring the individual progress of students in their
respective classes. We need to give also a grade because it
reflects student performance in individual courses or
course assignments.

2. GRADED ASSESSMENT by Bernard O’Rourke - this

article supports my thoughts because graded assessment
motivates learner to showcase their capabilities, skills and
talents and how they understood a particular lesson.
According to the article of Bernard O’Rourke, graded
assessment is a scheme for addressing the needs of lower
attainers.

CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
Topic: Time
Grade level: 6
Multiple Choice Test: Read carefully every item and
encircle the correct answer.

1. How often does leap year usually occur?

a) Every two years c) Every five years
b)Every four years d) Every eight years

2. How many days are in a leap year?

a) 364 c) 365
b)366 d) 365.25

3. The year 2000 was a leap year. The year 2096 will be a
leap year. 2100 be a leap year?
a) Yes
b)No

LESSON TITLE: AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT
CHECKING OF UNDERSTANDING
1. Choose a topic in Grade 4-6 mathematics. You will develop a Performance Tsk in this topic.
Grade level: 6

Content Standards Performance Standards Learning Competencies

real-life situations.
2. Develop a Performance Task to assess students learning in your chosen topic. Keep the
principles of authentic assessment in mind.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learner is able to apply knowledge of speed, area, and surface area of plane and solid/space figures in
mathematical problems and real-life situations.

GOAL: Compute the drivers speed, distance and time.

ROLE: Driver

AUDIENCE: Driver’s / Commuters

SITUATION: Your friends are travelling to any part of your province. You are going to compute each of
your friend’s speed, distance and time using the formula. (S=D/T) (D = S x T) (T=D/S).

PRODUCT CHOICES: TRAVEL INFORMATION TABLE

STANDARDS: Following Directions and Neatness

3. Write a rubric to evaluate the GRASPS output.
