cess. It could either break or help them make a better future. Information is essen-
tial in every decision making. It is usually gathered from different sources to give a
better perspective in making decisions. Thus, Dauin National High School in its pur-
suit to guide students in finding the appropriate career path, coordinated with Pub-
lic Employment Service Office (PESO) to conduct a career guidance advocacy pro-
gram to its Grade 10 and Senior High School students.
One of the activities of Dauin National High School is the conduct of the Ca-
reer Advocacy Program to Dauin National High School’s Grade 10 and Senior High
School Students. This was conducted last March 21, 2019 at 8:00 in the morning by Mrs.
Marife D. Tenido, a Public Employment Service Office Manager.
The topics aimed to help high school students in preparing them for a career
they would want to pursue. It presented different career choices, different factors
affecting fulfillment of a goal, preparations for equipping oneself with the skills re-
quired of a profession which includes honing one’s personal attributes and charac-
teristics which are essential when applying for work. Various activities were uti-
lized that will inspire as well as motivate students to persevere in their life goals.
The program and activities of the Career Guidance Advocacy Program re-
ceived positive results and feedbacks from the students and other stakeholders pre-
sent during the symposium. It helped them prepare to choose an appropriate ca-
reer choice for their future.
As a whole, the conduct of the Career Guidance Advocacy Program activities
brought positive im-
pact to the students
thus, making them
ready for a career
choice in the future.
It is highly recom-
mended to continue
the program and ac-
tivities since it
has developed and
enhanced the stu-
dents’ awareness in
making an appropri-
ate career choice in
order to have a bet-
ter future.
Partnerships, engagements and linkages are crucial in mainstreaming
the DRRM in schools. This is one of the core principles of DRRM in education. In
coherence with this principle, Mr. Joelou M. Aguirre coordinated with the local
MDRRMO with regards on having a lecture about DRRM in school. Mr. Rudy L. Al-
danese, MDRRM Officer, responded positively. He delivered a lecture about the
two major disasters with high probability of hitting the local area, i.e., earthquake
and typhoon. He also emphasized the precautionary measures in case these calam-
ities will be experienced such as performing the DROP, COVER and HOLD during
earthquakes. Then, he also informed the audience about suspension of classes. He
also stressed out that DRRM is more of a proactive approach. It is more of mitigat-
ing the effects rather than providing relief operations. Furthermore, he commended
the whole force of Dauin National High School with its effort of letting the student to
create and to submit their evacuation plan in case of disasters where evacuation is
a must. Working with the community, especially with the parents, is a great step
towards building organizational resilience. He ended his lecture by showing the
audience the effects of the strong typhoons that hit Philippines recently. Along with
his slideshow of these pictures is a reminder that everyone must do every little thing
to mitigate the effects of the above-mentioned disaster. The program ended with
giving of the certificate of commendation to Mr. Aldanese. This is one of the high-
lights during the Brigada Eskwela.
The Department of Education mandated that before the opening of the school year,
every school must conduct Brigada Eskwela also known as the National Schools Maintenance
Week on May 20 – 25, 2019 where all education stakeholders contribute the time, effort and
resources in ensuring that the school facilities are ready in time for the school opening as well
as the students and parents are well informed about the school policies to observed and
obeyed.
As early as May , the DNHS school administration, teachers, parents, and students, vol-
unteers participated in the brigade. Parents, school alumni and other people from the commu-
nity were joined the week-long activities. The Brigada Eskwela was participated by private sec-
tors, private business, NGOs, private individuals and local government . They were tapped to
solicit donations to cover the repairs and maintenance of the school. Last May 23, 2019 the
school conducted an Orientation to Parents and Students as part of the Brigada Eskwela to
help them prepare for the transitions to junior high school as well as the challenges and oppor-
tunities that lies ahead intellectually, emotionally, academically and socially. The main objec-
tive of the Orientation is to give significant information about the school. It is the best way to
get started on the path to academic success.
Brigada Eskwela is a DepEd program designed for all public schools in the Philippines
where all sectors in the community are asked to join and participate as stakeholders and part-
ners for the transformation of the physical aspect of the school, awareness to the school com-
munity regarding personal health, and preparedness campaign in cases of natural calamities.
Dauin National High School is fortunate enough to have different government and non-
government sectors who voluntarily offered their services during the Brigada Eskwela 2019
with the theme, “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan”. One of those govern-
ment sector is the Rural Health Unit of Dauin who unceasingly rendered their health ser-
vices to the school since the Brigada Eskwela had started until the present time with their
health consolations, awareness on dengue, rabies, proper nutrition, deworming, and the
weekly iron and folic acid supplementation.. Their main goal of giving the identified services
to the students, parents, teachers, stakeholders and partners present during the Brigada
Eskwela is to identify their basic health needs, educate everyone on those particular con-
cepts, and initiate ways on how to prevent from suffering fatalistic effect on dengue and rabies
if disregarded, and other diseases related to improper nutrition, non-deworming, and the re-
fusal to intake of the ferrous sulfate with folic acid specifically to the female Junior High
School students. Also, RHU volunteers orient the students, parents, and other stakeholders
on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in School (WinS) Program.
The Dauin Rural Health Unit is not only a partner sector during the Brigada Eskwela,
but for the entire school year where they impart their knowledge on some community diseas-
es occurring on a certain period of the year, as well as giving health care and education to the
school community.
The issue of drug abuse has already been with us for a very long time. Knowing the
adverse effects of drug abuse in the society’s culture and general well-being, many measures
have been proposed and implemented by experts in order to reduce and relieve, if not totally
eradicate these effects. One such measure is drug prevention education.
In view of the urgent need, the Department of education implemented the National
Drug Education Program (NDEP) which aims to prevent drug abuse among students through
the development of desirable values, attitudes and practices.
True to its commitment to uphold our students’ holistic growth and development,
Dauin National High School in partnership with Dauin PNP a Drug Prevention Symposium
was conducted on May 21, 2019 as part of our 2019 Brigada Eskwela activities. Our resource
speakers used Audio-Visual Presentations to show the harmful effects of drug abuse. They
also emphasized the social, emotional and physical dangers of abuse of illegal drugs. More
importantly the legal responsibility and liability of users and pushers were discussed. It was
such a delight to see a number of parents who attended the symposium. They attended to be
educated about drug awareness/prevention despite their household chores and works. The
youth’s involvement in the anti-drug campaign is a necessary step because they play an im-
portant part in helping stop the spread of illegal drugs in our country.
Dauin National High School has invited parents, students, LGUs and various stake-
holders within the municipality of Dauin and even in the neighboring towns and city to support
the school. Some of the stakeholders among others were coming from beach resorts such as
Atlantis Beach Resort and Atmosphere Resort, some came from banks such as East West
Bank and City Savings Bank, some from the Local Government Unit specifically the office of
the Sangguniang Bayan spearheaded by the Municipal Vice Mayor, some are from the differ-
ent batches who graduated from Dauin National High School and of course mostly were the
parents and students.
More importantly, one of the major stakeholders of Dauin National High School is the
Rotary Club of Dumaguete East in coordination with Rotary Club of Colorado, USA . The Ro-
tarians gave school supplies for students such as bondpapers, alcohol, notebooks, pencils,
pens, crayons and the like. The said school supplies were turned over to the school to be
used by the learners o Dauin National High School.
Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries is a congregation of nuns established
in Diocese of Cebu, Philippines. Its charisma is conversion of prostituted women
and children. They have five (5) programs and one of which is educational assis-
tance program. This is in prevention of prostitution. As witness of the rescued
women more than half is due to poverty, less educated and illegal recruitment.
So educational assistance was launched to poor barangays of Cebu and found
effective and helpful to the poor. So, the program was extended to the neigh-
bouring towns thus reaching Dauin.
