CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUTION
Drug dependent, psychology and sometimes physical state characterized by compulsion to use
a drug to experience psychological or physical effects, drug dependence takes several forms;
tolerance, habituation, and addiction. Tolerance, a form of physical dependence occurs when
the body becomes accustomed to a drug to requires ever increasing amount of it to achieve the
same pharmacological effects, this condition is worsen when certain drug is used to high doses
for long period (weeks or months), and may lead to more frequent use of the drug
However, when of drug was stopped drug withdrawal may result, which is characterized by
nausea, headaches, restlessness, sweating and difficulty sleeping. The severity of drug
withdrawal symptoms varies depending on the drug involved.
Habituation, a form of psychological dependence is characterized by the continued desire for a
drug, even after physical dependence is gone, a drug often produce an elated emotional state
and a person abusing drug soon believes the drug is needed to function at work or home.
Addiction is a severe craving for the substance and interferes with a person ability to function
normally. It may also involve physical dependence.
Scientist often measures a drug's potential for abused by conducting studies with laboratories
animals. Drugs that an animal administered to its self repeatedly are said to have powerful
reinforcing properties and a high potential for abuse. These drugs such as marijuana and the
hallunogens, appear to produce habituation in humans even though they are not powerful
reinforces for laboratory animals.
The drugs that are commonly abused except alcohol and tobacco, can be grouped into six
classes; the opioids, seductive-hypnoties, stimulants, hallunogens, cannabis and inhalants.
Drugs, substance that effect the function of the living cells, use in medicines lo diagnose, cure,
prevent the occurrence of disease and disorders and prolong the life of patients with incurable
conditions.
Addiction, habitual repetition of excessive behavior that a person is unable or unwilling to stop,
despite its harmful consequence. People can be physically addicted te a drug, meaning they
may suffer ill physical effects if they stop taking the drug.
They also can be psychological addicted to drugs, gambling or other behaviors, meaning they
feel overwhelmingly deprived if they attempt to stop.
Drug rehabilitation problems attempt to threats people who abuse drugs and help them
overcome their dependence on drugs. There are different interpretations of the meaning of
rehabilitation. Many people believed that the recovery from drug addiction requires total
abstinence from drugs. Other believe that recovery involves the ability control the use of drugs
sufficiently to function adequately. Both groups agree, however that overcoming a drug
dependency is very difficult. For a rehabilitation program to be successful, a person must desire
change and be committed to it, and he must adequate support to help the individual achieve this
goal.

BACKGROUND / HISTORY OF THE PROJECT

Our government and society are alarm and worried about the growing menace of drugs abuse.
Millions of teenagers across our nation are facing a bleak and dismal future as they sink deeper
and deeper into the quick sand of teenage drug abuse, and everyday still more teenagers are
being lured into the drug scene. More young lives continue to be destroyed by drugs, lives that
would otherwise make a difference in our nation future, for among the teenagers who we have
lost to drugs could be some scientist, doctors, teachers, priest, ministers, lawyers, captain of
business and industry, political leaders and other professionals who could be made the
Philippines a great nations. Thus, drugs not only darken the hopes of our country, they still and
rob as well as nations future your very own future and hose of this generations that will come
after you.
Through the help of our government, rehabilitation came out to save and help the drug
dependents to recover and making them useful again. The law looks kindly on drugs
dependents. Instead of treating them as criminals, the law looks them as victims of an illness
who need to be treated and cured. For this reason, a drug dependent who is accused of illegal
possession of drug use of dangerous drugs is not usually not sent to jail or prison. Instead of
court orders that the drug dependent to be sent and confined in drug rehabilitation authorized by
the dangerous drug board where the drug dependent will be treated and rehabilitated. If the
center says that the drug dependent is completely rehabilitated, the court will send him free.
A person who becomes hooked on drugs faces a very dark future but all is not lost for him. He
can still recover and lead once more a useful and productive life and that what drugs
rehabilitation centers are for. Scientist do not know precisely what causes drug, but most
experts suspect that a combination of factors are involved, which may explain why some people
who become a drug dependent while most do not.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This proposal entitled "A PROPOSED REHABILITATION CENTER FOR
DRUG DEPENDENTS" it aimed to provide a structure suitable for the treatment and
rehabilitation of drug dependents.
Specifically, the study aims to answer the following questions:
1. Is there a need for the proposed project?
2. What do the respondents think about the proposed project?
3. Can the project effectively meet the demand?
4. Is it accessible in term of transportation?
5. What benefits shall the people gain from this project?
6. Is there enough capital outlay for the proposed project?
7. What type of Organization Management Structure will be adopted?
8.
Are there enough people who would manage the proposed project?

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The proposed project covers the Design Analysis in terms of spatial and human
interrelationships. The interrelationships between the several areas of activities are varied and
complex. Add to this is the site selection, consideration of finance and provision for future
development are also considered. Analysis on space requirements and computation of areas
are based on the
National Building Codes (NBC) of the Philippines and other pertinent laws and regulation
governing the design.
Presentation of data is also considered based from actual observation to support what is known
in the feasibility is justify in the need of the proposed project.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

So much has been said about drug abuse as a social menace many stories about the lives of
the drug dependents has been tackled and published. But we, as community, have never really

These study entitle "A PROPOSED REHABILITATION CENTER FOR DRUG
DEPENDENT' has made an effort in understanding what the drug dependents really need. This
study has made its responsibility to delve deeper than usual into the drug dependent mind. In
so, doing it feels more effective in providing not just a roof over this lost souls had but more so a
