The Philippines is located in Southeast Asia,


on the eastern rim of the Asiatic Mediterranean.
It is bounded in the west by the South China
Sea; in the east by the Pacific Ocean; in the
south by the Sulu and Celebes Seas; and in the
north by the Bashi Channel. Its capital and main
port of entry is Manila.

Popularly known as Cagayan River, the Rio


Grande de Cagayan in Cagayan Valley in the
northeastern part of Luzon is the longest and
largest river in the archipelago. It is 505
kilometers long and traverses through the
provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya
and Quirino

At 2,954 meters (9,692 ft), Mount Apo is the


highest mountain (peak) and volcano in the
Philippines. It is one of the country's most popular
hiking/climbing destinations.

The first ever Easter Mass in the Philippines – a
landmark in the history of Philippine Christianity –
was held in 1521 on the island of Mazaua,
known today as Limasawa Island, Leyte

The Cry of Balintawak occurred on


August 26, 1896. The Cry, defined as that
turning point when the Filipinos finally
refused Spanish colonial dominion over the
Philippine Islands. With tears in their eyes,
the people as one man, pulled out their
cedulas and tore them into pieces.

The deaths of GOMBURZA were facilitated
in a public execution at Bagumbayan
(Luzon) using a garrote due to false
accusations charged against them by
Spanish authorities.

The Cavite mutiny of 1872 was an


uprising of Filipino military personnel of
Fort San Felipe, the Spanish arsenal in
Cavite, Philippine Islands on 20 January
1872. Around 200 locally recruited colonial
troops and laborers rose up in the belief
that it would elevate to a national uprising.

The first Philippine flag was the war


banner adopted by Andres Bonifacio in
1892. It was a rectangular piece of red
cloth, with three white K's arranged to form
three angles of an equilateral triangle.

On June 5, 1899, Antonia Luna was


assassinated by physical force and
stabbing by his own people - Filipino
soldiers whom Luna had either insulted,
arrested, or disarmed for insubordination.

The morning after the execution of Jose


Rizal, the newspapers of Manila and Madrid
recorded the event, and announced that on
the eve of his death Rizal retracted his
religious errors, abjured freemasonry, and in
the last hours of his life had married
