-Question and Answer Portion-

Earl: Madlang people, are you ready to hear the brilliant ideas of our guest speakers as
they partake their knowledge on the proclamation of the Philippine independence and
the history behind it?
Adrian: Alright, let us begin the most awaited part of our talk show...
Earl: Ms. Ghene Rose, will be the first to answer the question to be followed by Ms.
Sunshine, and lastly Ms. Arjona
Adrian: Now here’s the first question for you Ms. Ghene Rose ...... (1. When and where
was the proclamation of the Philippine independence happened?)
Ms. Ghene Rose: June 12, 1898, at the province of Cavite
Earl: (2. how many years lasted before the end of the Spanish colonization to the
Philippines?)
Ms. Sunshine: It lasted for quite a long time, about 333 yrs.
Adrian: Ms Bernagen, if you were there during the proclamation of the Philippine
Independence Day, how would you react to that moment, knowing all the sacrifices the
Filipinos have done just to gain this long-dreamed freedom.
Ms. Bernagen Arjona: I think I would be the happiest person at that moment, not just for
myself but for my co-Filipino people for finally gaining freedom amidst all the
circumstances.
Adrian: wow, that was an exquisite and heart-touching answer Ms. Bernagen.
Earl: Ms. Ghene Rose, it was written in the document of declaration the unjust and
maltreatment of Spaniards to the Filipinos. Can you tell us what are these
maltreatments specifically?
Ms. Ghene Rose: It's a lot to tell, like the arbitrary arrest and harsh treatment of civil
guards, the unlawful shooting of the prisoners whom they alleged as attempting to
escape, the unequal protection of the law between Filipino people and the "eminent
personages” and rendering of other decision without proper hearing.
Adrian: Ms. Sunshine, Can you cite one unjust situation you've seen or experience
where you can relate to our history.
Ms. Sunshine: The act of rendering decision without proper hearing, I think it's quite
common today. Sometimes it happens that if you have the power and money, you can
put the law in your hands and manipulate people while the poor ones will experience
unequal treatment and discrimination.
Earl: Ms. Arjona, do you agree with Ms. Sunshine' statement that most of the
unfortunate people will experience discrimination.
Ms. Bernagen: I truly agree with what Ms. Sunshine' said. There was a time I came to a
bank to process a document and the security guard is hesitating to let me in. I don’t
know if he just thinks that I’m still too young or maybe he thinks I planned to rob and
steal something from there (Laughing...) Well appearance really matters and that's a
sad reality.
Adrian: You're quite funny Ms. Bernagen, you really make us laugh with that interesting
experience of yours.
Adrian: Ms. Ghene Rose, It is narrated in the document the spread of the Pact of Biak-
na-Bato movement is just like an "electric spark" through different towns and provinces
like Bataan, Pampanga, Batangas, Bulacan, Laguna, and Morong and the quick decline
of Spanish forces from the same provinces. Thus, the independence of the country was
ensured. Given these circumstances, what can you say about the attitude of the Filipino
people before?
Ms. Ghene Rose: Upon knowing all these things, I can proudly say that Filipinos are
really something. The Bravery, courage, and the good values we have is something to
be proud of. The spirit of Unity and Camaraderie is always in our hearts wherever we
go. That's the reason why Filipino people were loved by many.
Earl: Yes, you're right Ms. Ghene Rose. The thing is, no matter where we are and what
we become in the future, our good values never change. Because this is the only
treasure that nobody can steal from us.
Earl: It is mentioned in the document that Rizal's execution calling it unjust and was
done to "please the greedy body of friars in their insatiable desires to seek revenge
upon and exterminate all those who oppose them.
Ms. Sunshine: If you were Rizal, would you do your life for the sake of the Filipino
people.
Ms. Sunshine: Although it is good to stay humble, however if someone will step on my
rights, I would not hesitant t fight back. So, if I were Rizal, I would also do the same and
as what he did. To fight until my last breath.
Adrian: Did you know that the three colors in the Philippine flag has different meaning in
the proclamation document?
Ms. Bernagen: As what we've known in our history classes, the white triangle was
derived from the symbol of Katipunan, the red and blue colors were associated with
courage and peace respectively. However, in the real document of proclamation, it was
written there that the colors were associated with the flag of the United States.
Adrian: You mean to say Ms. Bernagen that some historical truths were overlooked by
us, and that the history omits the fact that the colors were associated from United
States.
Ms. Bernagen: Yes, Adrian.
Earl: Okay ladies. You take a break for a while because the Taha Talk Show will be
back!

*The Talk Show (Question and Answer Portion) is back*
Earl: In the document, Teodoro Agoncillo stated that the Philippine revolution was an
Agrarian revolution. The common revolutionary soldiers fought in the revolution for the
hope of owning the lands they were tilling.
Adrian: So, the Revolutionists not just fought because of the unjust treatment and the
discrimination but they also have hidden motives.
Earl: So, Ms. Ghene Rose, do you think the leaders of the revolutionary like Emilio
Aguinaldo, Ambrosio, and Felipe were aware of the realities in the Revolutionary
struggle or were intentionally left out because they were land holders themselves?
Ms. Ghene Rose So: They are the leaders so probably they knew about it. The truth is
we really can't judge a person by only hearing a one-sided story. Because sometimes,
behind a lamb's face is a hungry wolf. Meaning to say some people appear to be so
good to us yet he or she is after to something from us.
Adrian: Ms. Bernagen agree with you Ms. Ghene, that should be a reminder to all of us.
To beware of people who are close to us because anytime they can easily betray us.
Earl: I bet you're all familiar with the treaty of Paris. It’s an agreement between United
states and Spain. After the declaration, the Philippines was sold to the United States.
This result to Philippine American war.
Adrian: The point is even the official records and documents like the proclamation of
independence while truthful most of the time, still exude the politics and biases of
whoever is in power.
Earl: You're right Adrian, a situation like this still happens in today's generation. All we
can do is to select good leader that will do all means for the country's welfare.
Adrian: I shall say, today's talk show is full of lessons and a very mind-opening to all
Filipinos who were kept in the dark and now the truth has finally unfolded.
Earl: Before this program ends, we would like to say thank you to our beloved guest for
rendering your precious time with us. Thank you Ms. Ghene Rose So, Ms. Sunshine
Candia, and Ms. Bernagen Arjona. We are looking forward to having you again as our
guest in this show.
Adrian: And to our beloved audience, thank you for watching our show, we hope that
you’ve enjoyed listening to our TaHa talk show with our gorgeous guests.
