interpretations of those results, and the final conclusions drawn from the interpretations and formulating
a plan of action for the future.
Consist of strategies for future implementation of the treatments, interventions, revisions and
improvements to your instructional methods, and other items that were incorporated into
your study and may consist of designs and proposals for future action research cycles or
perhaps a combination of both.
Action plans may consist of brief statements or simple descriptions about the implementation of a new
educational practice; a plan to reflect on alternative approaches to addressing the problem; a plan to
share what you have learned with others interested in the topic, such as other teachers, administrators,
boards of education, or other schools or districts; or any other “next steps” you might take
By Day 1 of Week 7
Post the visual representation of your findings to the Discussion Board. Include in your
post responses to the following:
o How might you apply what you have learned in your visual representation and in this course to
the next research cycle of your Personal Action Research Plan?
o What SMART goals do you have for moving your professional practice forward?
Completing my data collection for my action research has helped me answer my research
question of does giving students choice on the images they use for various assignments in
Photoshop impact their Photoshop posttest scores? The data I collected for this project indicates
that giving students choice can have a positive effect on student’s posttest scores. The graphic
visual provided shows an increase in the average score for both formative assignments and for
the posttest for the experimental group. After completing data collection and seeing the positive
effect that giving students choice had on academic performance has inspired me to think about
my course of action moving forward. According to Mertler (2020) action plans can be statements
or descriptions about implementing a particular practice or sharing findings. While my data does
indicate that giving students a choice in images they use for various photoshop assignments can
positively affect their posttest scores, I would like to study this topic further by applying it to
other units of study and see if giving students choice has a positive effect on their posttest
performance. According to Lindeman (2018), giving students choice in the classroom can help
create an authentic learning experience that adds excitement and increases engagement. I am
interested to study student choice in my Digital Media course to see if these findings can exist in
my content area.
My action plan is to implement student choice for all assignments that lead up to the posttests in
my Digital Media class for the 2021 semester. I will do this by modifying assignments to give
students their choice in what images, audio files, clips they use. Next, I will collect data on
students’ formative assessments scores throughout each learning unit and collect their posttest
scores. I will use this data to determine if giving students choice shows any increase in academic
achievement. If this trend continues I will look to present my findings to my school at a faculty
meeting.
SMART Goal 1:
By May 31, 2021 I will give all of my Digital Media class choice in what creations they create
for each formative assignment. I will grade students work and compare it to previous semester
students to see if there is any growth. I will also journal about each class period to include
another form of data collection. I will discuss my findings each week with my PLC.
SMART Goal 2:
By October 1, 2021 my PLC and I will give a presentation to my school about our findings from
the action research project. We will present at a faculty meeting and will include the visual data
from our study to show teachers. We will explain our findings, discuss trends that we found, as
well as challenges. I will set up a meeting with my principal to discuss presenting our findings
and also setup a follow-up meeting to discuss how the presentation went.
