1. Show the pictures of London in the 17th century and ask pupils what they can see,
Pre-lesson where they think it is, which century it is in, etc. Note any useful key vocabulary on the
board.
1. Pupils look at the pictures, read the text and elicits answers. Use the picture of
Samuel Pepys (pronounced: /piːps/) and introduce pupils to him.
2. Point to each picture and elicit answers. Pupils look at each picture and talk about
what they see.
3. Pupils read the diary to check their answers and to gain a global understanding of the text.
Lesson Delivery 4. Ppl scan the text to find the words in vocabulary panel. Ppls find and explain the meaning.
5. Pupils can record new vocabulary by using vocabulary cards. Encourage pupils to write
definitions of new words in English and avoid translations unless necessary.
6. The Great Fire of London was a tragic event, but it helped eradicate the plague. Ask
pupils to reflect on positive and negative outcomes of these events. Support pupils in
expressing their ideas in English by helping them.
