between these things by making them
more similar to each other. However, it's
not only objects or ideas that can have
differences. Sometimes, even sentences
can have differences that need to be
fixed by making them more alike or
parallel to each other.

Action This morning, we will be discussing

about Parallelism. I want you to listen
attentively and participate actively in our 5
discussion because at the end of the
lesson, you are expected to achieve the
following objectives.

 Identify errors in parallel

structures
 Use parallel structures
 Express the importance of
balance in life

Are these objectives clear, class?

Yes, Sir!

To kickstart our discussion for today, we

will have a short activity first. You may
proceed to your assigned groups quietly.

(Students proceed to
their groups)
Directions: I’ll be giving you one box for
each group containing the activities that
you will be working on. Present your
answers in front of the class afterwards.

 Group 1 – Find the error in the

sentence and correct it.
 Group 2 – Spot the sentence that has
parallel structure.
 Group 3 – Complete the sentence
using parallel structure.
 Group 4 – Identify which of the
following sentences is not parallel
and make it correct.
 Group 5 – Supply the correct word to
make the sentence complete and
parallel using the guide word
provided.

construction for sentence elements that
are the same in function. 25

Let’s go back to the Sentence 1 in our

activity earlier.

class?

conjunction that connects the two words,

our first rule in parallelism?
Very good!

First rule: Use parallel structure with

elements joined by coordinating
conjunction.

Examples:

1. I’m allergic to dog’s hair and smell.

2. Should I study or sleep?

Do you understand our first rule, class?

Good! So, can you give me an example

sentence applying this rule?

Very good! Let us proceed to our second

sentence.

Politicians are good in motivating,

captivating, and convincing people.

Do you see a series of words, phrases,

or clauses here in the sentence?

Alright! Can you cite them for us, ____?

Precisely! Now, if the sentence has a

series of words or clauses, what do you
think is the second rule of parallelism?

Awesome!

Second rule: Use parallel structure

with elements in lists or in a series.

Examples:

1. Filipinos are hospitable, responsible,

and respectful people.
2. Alexander Graham Bell was a painter,
a teacher, and an inventor.

Can you give me a sentence using this

rule?

Great!

Are there questions or clarifications

regarding our topic, class?

When we use Parallelism, we must use

the same type of words throughout to be
consistent. This means we need to
balance our words.

But, balancing isn't just about grammar.

We also balance our daily tasks like
school, work, and chores. It can be
tough, but how do you balance what's
important in your life?

That's right! We try to balance our

priorities by managing our time well, and
it's really important to do that. Why?
Because it helps us do the important
things in our lives. If we don't manage
our time properly, we might forget to do
what’s important because we're too busy
with other things. It's not easy, but with
practice, we can get better at it. It's also
important not to focus only on one thing,
like work, and ignore our family. This can
have a negative impact on our lives.

Do you understand what I am trying to

say, class?

Alright! Let us proceed with our last

activity for today. Please proceed to your
respective groups.
Estimation
I will provide you with a scroll containing 15
materials that have faulty parallel
structures.

Your task is to correct and rewrite them

using proper parallelism.

Once you have completed the activity,

present your output in front of the class.

Group 1 – Short paragraph

Group 2 – Slogan
Group 3 – News article
Group 4 – Table of contents
Group 5 – Poem

activities)
