Class 2, VA
Class 2, VA
Class 2, VA
Objective
Play with folding, tearing and pasting different materials like paper, wool, cloth, clay, etc
Preparation
Slightly thick sheets of paper (could be from reused envelopes etc.), wool (two strands of 1m
each or one 2m strand), thread (two strands of 1m each or one 2m strand), scissors, colours
The learners will be asked to fold their sheet of paper in half and press the fold
with enough pressure to create a clear crease. They will repeat this action four
more times. Now the size of paper would have been substantially reduced.
Now the learners will tear a small shape off an edge of the paper. This is the
inside edge of the sheet, not the outside edge.
5
Once done, they will open their sheets to have somewhat of a pattern made up
of creases and holes.
6
The learners will get back to their sheets of paper that they prepared in the first
half. The facilitator will ask the learners to take their pieces of threads or wools
or both out.
Learners will use these threads to weave in the holes on their sheet. They can
go in whichever order they like. The facilitator will have to give a demo of how
to take the thread in and how to take out, they can be then left to their own
devices.
It will be important to mention what to do when the strand is entirely used. The
learners will then cut a small shape of paper of about 3cm by 3cm. They will
then sandwich the last end of the strand between this small piece and their
7
sheet of paper and stick all of this together. The learners can weave as many
pieces of wool/thread onto their sheets as they like.
When they are happy with it and if they want to, they can also further draw on
this sheet using colours.
Learners will present their sheets of paper to their class. They will share their
process with each other.
Dear Facilitator,
Different materials work differently. Our learners would have hopefully noticed this
today and developed a certain sensitivity towards this.
Thanks for taking them on this journey!
Note for the Facilitator: It is okay if you cannot complete all the activities, it is more
important that learners get time to explore and imagine. Please feel free to be flexible
with the times specified in this document.
