A. Summary of the Author's Argument:

Protected bike lanes have become an essential feature in big cities in the
Philippines due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Bicycling is economically friendly, requires less
maintenance, does not get stuck in traffic, does not produce pollution, and does not get
parking problems. It also offers an excellent way to exercise and relieves stress and anxiety.
Cities have added bike lanes to downtown areas to provide safe and speedy throughways for
byciclists.

B. Summary of the Author's Argument:

Protected bike lanes reduce one valuable lane from inner city streets,
but this is worsened by reckless byciclists who ignore street signs and clutter congested
sidewalks. These problems outweigh the benefits of bicycling, so those who don't want to
drive can hop on a bus or subway instead.

In passage one, the author argues the creation of secure bike paths has become a
crucial component due to the rise in cyclists and the urgent demand for safer and more
effective modes of transportation in the Philippines' major cities. Many commuters used
bicycles as an alternate mode of transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bicycling
advocates supported the decision, pointing out the many advantages of the activity,
including its affordability due to the lack of fuel expenditures, lack of upkeep requirements,
and capacity to avoid traffic and parking worries. In addition, cycling is discovered to be a
practical form of exercise that can help reduce stress and anxiety. Cities all throughout the
country have responded by putting in bike lanes to reduce traffic, accidents, and pollution.

On the other hand, in passage two, the author contends that placing bike lanes in
big cities. Although protected bike lanes might give bikers a practical mode of mobility, they
take up vital road space. The arrival of bicycles, many of which are ridden recklessly,
complicates already congested streets. Some cyclists' disrespect for traffic rules and road
signs results in more collisions with cars and pedestrians. This makes the situation
unpleasant for both pedestrians and car drivers, especially when coupled with the
congestion brought on by bicycles parked on already congested sidewalks. The
disadvantages of bike lanes vastly outweigh their benefits. Buses and subways are good
alternatives to driving a car since they provide similar benefits without taking up valuable
road space.
