SA1750CR Technical Data
SA1750CR Technical Data
C: 4.0 – 5.0% Mn: 1.0 –1.5% Cr: 30-40% Fe and others: Balance
Please note: The actual chemistry will vary with the overlay thickness.
Custom chemistries can be developed for particular applications.
Abrasion Resistance: For cold abrasion, tests have shown a 30 to 1 wear ratio of SA1750CR over
mild steel and a 12 to 1 ratio over heat treated AR400. ASTM G-65 RWAT
procedure "A" results are available upon request.
Plate Characteristics: The overlay surface of SA1750CR consists of a series of beads (w to 1-2
inches wide) with numerous hairline cracks. These properly spaced cross-
check cracks are a natural stress relief phenomenon and are beneficial to the
material. The cracks propagate through the overlay and end at the base plate.
Flatness Tolerance: SA1750CR overlay plate is held to a flatness tolerance of ± 1/8" over 5 ft. of
the length of the plate.
Impact Resistance: SA1750CR overlay plate will withstand continuous moderate impact. Custom
overlays can be formulated to withstand higher impact levels.
Temperature Range: SA1750CR overlay plate will remain abrasion resistant at temperatures up to 1100o F.

FABRICATION:
The following information as been provided to assist those concerned with the fabrication
of SA1750CR overlay plate. For more technical assistance, please call our engineering
department.
Cutting: SA1750CR overlay plate can be cut by plasma burning, air arc or abrasive saw
cutting.
Machining: The SA1750CR overlay surface can be finished by grinding only. Electro
Discharge Machining (EDM), plasma arc cutting, or carbon-arc gouging may
produce countersunk holes for bolts. Pre-machined mild steel inserts may be
welded into straight holes for additional machining. SA1750CR is not
machinable by ordinary methods.
Cold Bending: When using a press brake to form, forming should be perpendicular to the
weld pass direction. Plate rolling should be performed in the direction of the
weld overlay beads. Forming the SA1750CR overlay to the outside will cause
the cross-check cracks to open, possibly requiring weld repair with SA1750CR
weld rod/wire. Consult our engineering staff for details.
Welding: SA1750CR overlay plate can be joined together by welding substrate to substrate
using SA100NMC weld wire/rod. Liner plates can be plug welded in place by
welding the SA1750CR substrate to the base material using SA100NMC weld
rod/wire. Stud welds can be applied to the substrate side, but we highly
recommend stainless steel studs be used. All weld seams, plug weld holes,
bolt holes, and other joints exposed to wear should be protected by a cap weld
of SA1750CR weld rod/wire. Our engineering staff is available to answer any
questions or concerns regarding the welding and attachment of SA1750CR plate.
