Date: 25-02-2022 Ex 4 Simulate Wired and Wireless LAN Regno: URK20CO1044

Aim
Design Wired and Wireless LAN using Packet tracer. Test the connectivity between the hosts
and examine the physical topology of the network.

Description
1. End Devices:
End devices are the ones who use the core, if network devices are the core. Packet Tracer
supports a broad range of end devices, including PCs, laptops, tablets, PDAs, and even
televisions.
2. Switch:
In a wired network, a switch is used to link devices via Ethernet connections. Each linked
gadget may communicate with the others due to the switch. Because equipment such as
wireless routers and adapters interact directly with one another, wireless-only networks do
not require switches.
3. LAN:
A Local Area Network (LAN) is a collection of computers or other devices connected by
Ethernet or Wi-Fi inside a single, constrained area. LAN is made up of a group of computers
that are connected to establish a network in a certain region. TCP/IP ethernet or Wi-Fi is used
to link the computers in a LAN.
4. ICMP:
ICMP(Internet Control Message Protocol) is a protocol used at the network level. ICMP
packets relay information about network connection problems to the source of the
compromised transmission. It transmits control signals such as source route failure,
destination network inaccessible, and source quench.

Procedure
Steps to configure the networks
Step-1: Connect different types of end devices to the switch and on the other side connect
different types of end devices to the home router(wireless).
a. Take two pc’s, two laptop’s in the end devices and connect it to the switch with the copper
straight-through wire.
b. Take a pc, laptop, smartphone and tablet in the end devices and connect them wireless to
the home router.
Step-2: Connect the home router(wireless) and switch with the copper straight-through wire.
Step-3: Configure each end device IP addresses. For configuring the IP addresses of the end
devices, click on one of the end devices and navigate to “Desktop”. There in “IP
Configuration” we can see a box called “IP4 Address” where we enter our own IP address.
With this the IP address is configured for one of the end devices. Similarly, configure every
end device’s IP address. At the same time, configure the gateway for all the end devices in
the ip configuration.
Step-4: Testing the connectivity. For testing the connectivity between the devices whether the
network is working or not, we click on one of the end devices and navigate to “Desktop” and
select “Command Prompt” and type the following command “ping <IP address>”, here “<IP
address>” will be the address of the end device which we want to test the connectivity with.
If the lost packet is 0 then that means the network is working, otherwise if there is any other
value that means some packets have not reached and we have to re-configure our network.
Step-5: Give the commands in the router to connect to the switch and wireless home router.
a. To give the commands go to the router. Select the ‘CLI’ and enter the commands. Firstly,
enable the router and configure the terminal.
b. Nextly, enter the ‘int FastEthernet 0/0’ and enter the ip address, gateway of any end device
which is connected to the switch and exit from it.
c. Repeat the above steps and replace 0/0 with 1/0 and enter the ip address, gateway of any
end device which is connected to the wireless home router and exit from it.
Step-6: Lastly, check the connectivity between the wired and wireless LAN devices by
sending packets from one device to another device.

Result
We have created a wired and wireless LAN and checked the connectivity between them.
