Language Focus:
a. Be affirmative
When we speak using positive sentences, we use the formula:
Subject + V1(s/es) + Object
The use of the ending s/es in this ver is only used in the subject he, she, and it.
Some example of positive sentences using the simple present, for example:
▪ I clean my house everyday
(I as subject, clean as verb, and my house every day as object) it is
singular, because the subject (I) consist of one person.
▪ You make the bed every morning
(you as subject, make the bed as verb, and every morning as object)
▪ We do the laundry twice a week
▪ They tidy up the room every afternoon
▪ She clean the windows
▪ He irons the clothes
60
▪ He mops the floor
▪ Michael washes the dishes every other day
b. Negative
Meanwhile, when we want to speak using negative sentence, we use the
formula:
Subject + do/does + not + V1 + object
In negative sentences, we can use do not (don’t) in subject I, you, we, and
they. For the subject he, she, it use does not (doesn’t). Some example of
negative sentences using the simple present include:
▪ You don’t tidy up the room every day.
▪ My family don’t take the laundry every day
▪ My brother doesn’t take out the trash on Monday
c. Interrogative
When we want to talk using interrogative sentences, we can use formula:
Do/does + subject + V1?
For question words ‘do’ can be used for subject I, you, we, and they.
Meanwhile for ‘does’ it can be used for the subject he, she, and it. Some
example of interrogative sentences using the simple present include:
▪ When do you do the laundry?
(it is using do, because using the subject ‘you’)
▪ When do you clean your house?
(it is using do, because using the subject ‘you’)
▪ Does he make the bed every day?
(it is using does, because using the subject ‘he’)
61
Lina : Oh, I didn't think about that. Thanks for the tip.
Jema : No problem. Cleaning is easier when you have the right tools. Do you
have any tips for cleaning windows?
Lina : A mixture of vinegar and water with a newspaper or a microfiber
cloth works really well for me.
Jema : That's a clever idea. I heard that using newspapers helps prevent
streaking.
Lina : Yes, newspapers absorb moisture without leaving any lint or streaks
on the glass, but you can also use a microfiber cloth.
Jema : Well, thanks a lot for the tips. I'm going to buy a carpet cleaner
today and give my house a good clean.
Lina : You're welcome. Don't forget to wear gloves and a mask while
cleaning. It's important to protect yourself from harmful chemicals.

Cleaning the House
My family and I often clean the house together. We clean the house so that the house looks
clean and tidy. Because a dirty home environment can cause a source of disease for the
family.
My family and I share the task. Dad is in charge of helping with the laundry, and cleaning
the room using a vacuum cleaner. So that the dust that sticks to the room of the house
becomes clean. Mother and sister, in charge of doing the kitchen work. Like cooking food,
washing dirty dishes and several other jobs.
I was in charge of helping sweep and mop the floor. The tools I use for this are brooms and
mops. Besides that, I also help clean the windows of the house, so they look shiny. On the
other hand, my younger sister, helps tidy up clothes that are still messy in the room and irons
clothes to make them neat. We are happy to do all the work in this house so that we are used
to living clean and healthy.
Question:
1) In the picture above anyone who cleans the house?

B. Material
A. topic
Our life cannot be separated from the environment, the natural environment around us
such as the environment around the house, school is very influential in our lives. Therefore, we
must keep the environment clean. The way to clean the environment is to dispose of trash in
its place. There are two ways to dispose of trash, namely by disposing of our own trash and
disposing of trash that we find in the surrounding environment. In disposing of garbage, we
must be able to distinguish the types of waste. It consists of:
1. Organic waste
What is meant by organic waste is waste that comes from the remains of living things
that easily decompose naturally without human intervention to decompose. For example, like:
leftovers. Decaying fruit (including skin) Cardboard. Paper.
2. non-organic waste
Inorganic waste is waste consisting of inorganic materials. Examples of inorganic
materials are metals, plastics, glass, rubber, and cans. The nature of inorganic waste is durable
and difficult to decompose. This waste is not easily decomposed by soil microorganisms.
B. Language focus
1. Be affirmative
To be is a linking verb and an auxiliary verb that is essential in grammar. When
expressed in its affirmative form, the verb confirms something about the subject, example: age,
behavior, color, occupation, nationality, personality, place, price, quality, size, time…
Structure:
Subject + to be + …
Affirmative forms: (I) am, (you) are, (he/she/it) is, (we/you/they) are.
Example:
- “I am throwing trash in its place.” = Am is used for the first person singular.
- “He is throwing trash in its place” = Is used for the third person singular.
- “They are throwing trash in its place.” = Are is used for plural subjects.
2. Be negative
To be, in the negative form, is used to argue something about the characteristics of the
subject, for example: age, behavior, color, occupation, nationality, personality, place, price,
quality, size, time…
70
Usage structure:
Subject + to be + not + …
Negative form: (I) am not, (you) are not, (he/she/it) is not, (we/you/they) are not.
Example:
— “I am not throwing trash in its place.” = We use am not for the first person singular.
— “He is not throwing trash in its place.” = Is not used in the third person singular.
— “They are not throwing trash in its place.” = Are not is used for plural subjects.
3. Be interrogative
To be, in the interrogative form, is used to ask about the characteristics of the subject,
for example: age, behavior, color, occupation, nationality, occupation, personality, place, price,
quality, size, time…
Usage structure:
To be + subject + …?
Interrogative forms: Am (I…?), Are (you…?), Is (he/she/it…?), Are
(we/you/they…?).
Example:
— “Am I throwing trash in its place?” = We use Am for the first person singular.
— “Is hethrowing trash in its place?” = We use Is for the third person singular.
— “Are they throwing trash in its place?” = We use Are for plurals.
4. Short answer
Short answers are special forms to answer a question. They are usually used because they
are more polite. If you answer with yes or no only, it sounds unpolite. They are easy to form.
After the word "yes" or "no" you must take the person and the first word of the question. In
negative answers you must use the short form.
With To Be it is possible to give a short answer or a long answer to a question in English
though in casual conversation, short answers are much more common than long answers.
71
5. Action verb
Action verbs or dynamic verbs are verbs to state that the subject is carrying out an action
or to state that something is happening. Verbs that are classified as action verbs include those
that express activity, process, and momentary action. Action verbs have progressive or
continuous forms, and of course simple and perfect forms.
72
Drink (minum) Hit (memukul) Listen
Eat (makan) Hop (melompat) (mendengarkan)
Enter (masuk) Insult (menghina) Make (membuat)
Exit (keluar) Joke (bergurau) March (berbaris)
Fall (jatuh) Jump (melompat) Move (pindah)
Fix (memperbaiki) Kick (menendang) Nod (mengangguk)
Give (memberi) Laugh (tertawa) Open (membuka)
Go (pergi) Leave Play (bermain)
Grab (mengambil) (meninggalkan) Push (mendorong)
Help (meolong) Lift (mengangkat)
Example:
-He cleans the yard every Sunday morning. (Dia membersihkan halaman setiap minggu pagi.)
-They are cleaning the yard .(Mereka sedang membersihkan halaman.)
-Plastic waste spreads quickly. (Sampah plastik menyebar dengan cepat)
6. Conjuction
A conjunction is a word used to connect words, phrases, and clauses.
Common examples of conjunctions include and, but and or, although there are many other
possibilities (including although). The three main types of conjunctions are coordinating,
correlative and subordinating.
Types of conjunctions:
a. Coordinating conjunctions join words, phrases, and independent clauses. Examples
include: and, but, for, nor, or, so and yet.
b. Correlative conjunctions join words and phrases that have equivalent weight in a
sentence. They appear in pairs, such as either/or, neither/nor, and not only/but also. Here
is an example:
E-business is business conducted online, not only buying, and selling but also serving
customers and collaborating with business partners.
c. Subordinating conjunctions join independent clauses to dependent clauses and indicate
which is the main clause and which is subordinate. Examples include after, although, as,
because, before, if, once, since, then, that, though, till, until, when, where, whether, while and
73
yet. The main clause may be first in the sentence or second. The subordinate clause follows the
subordinate conjunction so the main clause is emphasized.
In the following sentence, for example, the emphasis is on the second clause:
Although women make up half of the U.S. workforce, they account for only 28% of core IT
occupations.
7. Impereative sentences
Imperative sentence is a sentence that expresses instruction, warning, command,
request, or invitation. There are two main categories: positive and negative imperative
sentences.
In positive imperative, we use the base verb.
Example: “
Do not forget to wash your hands!”
or
“Don’t forget to wash your hands!”
It means we want someone to not forget to wash their hands. In this sentence, we want someone
to not forget to wash their hand

Type Of Trash
Everyone must know how to deal with waste to keep the environment clean. Waste is
divided into several parts such as organic and inorganic. Organic waste can be decomposed by
microorganisms such as leaves, food, and leaves. While inorganic contains waste that can be
recycled such as plastic, paper, glass and so on. To keep our environment clean, waste must be
treated.
Garbage problem has become something that is often found around us. The way to
overcome this, we must process waste, whether organic or inorganic. The goal is that waste can
be organized and not worsen conditions. The role of the residents here is important, because
all of this is to keep the environment and society clean.
