Practical project management tools and techniques for Renewable Energy development projects.
Overview
The Renewable Energy Project Management short course has been specifically designed for the New Zealand Short
Term Training Scholarships for the New Zealand Aid Programme. It is an intensive course designed for participants
currently in middle management positions in renewable energy development companies. These could be state-
owned-enterprises or independent energy producers. Ideally participants will come from management roles in
renewable energy projects with decision making authority. This could include senior managers, procurement
managers, construction managers, general project managers.
This is a 4-week (continuous) residential course to be held in Auckland, New Zealand. Along with classroom teaching,
the course also includes a 4-day Field Trip to view renewable energy technology in practice.
The key learning outcome is the practical application of project management tools in a renewable energy context. A
further implicit learning outcome is to enhance decision making and risk management capabilities.
When?
This course will take place from 4th to 29th September 2023.
Participants will arrive in New Zealand on Thursday, 31st August 2023, and meet with Skills International the next day
for their induction. They will then travel to Auckland CBD where they will have the weekend to acclimatise and
familiarise themselves to the area. Participants are scheduled to depart on Saturday, 30th September 2023.
Presenters
The course is coordinated through The Geothermal Institute, who draw on leading expertise from the University of
Auckland including the Business School and the Faculty of Engineering. The Institute has also selected applicable
renewable energy industry experts who are considered world-class authorities in professional project management,
to ensure the highest quality learning outcomes.

Develop skills to apply project management principles within a renewable energy context.
