JCO Submitting Files For Print
If you are asked to prepare a revised text file, send it by e-mail to jcoeditorial@jco-online.com.
Do not use the online submissions system after your article has been accepted.
Forms
Signed copyright or patient waiver forms can be sent to JCO by e-mail or can be included with
article figures, as described below.
DO:
Send individual figure files in their most original form. Do not resample, resize, or crop.
Do correct mirror image orientation.
JCO will correct color, add appropriate labels, and resize images.
Figure photos
Send JPG, PNG, or TIFF files.
Author photos
Please attach to an email or send with the print-quality, high-resolution digital figure files.
Author photos should be high-resolution and not closely cropped.

Drawings
Send PSD, AI, EPS, or similar files.
If you have drawings, diagrams, or other artwork, send the original layered or vector
files. If someone took the time to create a drawing, diagram, or other marked-up image,
send the original.
For images that have layers, send the file in its native format. Do not flatten the image by
saving it as a JPG. We love files from Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and similar graphic
and design programs. Line drawings must be very high resolution: 1,200 pixels per inch.
Charts
Send PDF files. Send the Excel file, too, if you made the chart in Excel.
Name each individual figure file to correspond with the figure name in the text.
DO NOT SEND PHOTOS IN MONTAGES OR COLLAGES.
If all you have are montages, send the most original version of the montage. Do not add
borders or Fig. letters or numbers. Your management software has probably
downsampled (decreased quality) already!
Use WinZip or StuffIt to combine the figures into a single folder of files. Do not put figures into
separate folders.
DO NOT:
Do not put the images in a PowerPoint slide deck or into any other program, unless you have to
use PowerPoint to draw a diagram.
Most programs will compress the image and make it low-resolution.
Do not add labels or figure numbers and letters. JCO will add these as needed, based on the
figures in your original submission.
Do not email the images by inserting them into the body of the email.
This will compress them and make them smaller.
If you absolutely must send an image by email, attach it to the email instead of
copying/pasting into the body.
