Inquiry question: How can I make building and customizing a PC as simple as possible for beginner?
Rationale: The reason I’ve chosen this question is that I’ve always wanted to begin making YouTube
videos where I can talk into a camera. Tying this in with teaching people something about PC building is
something that I’ve wanted to do for a while.
Background: I have previous experience when it comes to sourcing used hardware, using those parts in
PC builds, and overclocking those parts to grab hold of their full potential.
Career Connections: I have not yet landed on a specific career area so my hope is that some aspect of
my capstone will point me towards a broad area of employment.
Core Competency Connections: I will need to be able to take advantage of my critical thinking skills to
be able to condense various information from a plethora of videos and articles and convert them into a
video with a duration of less than 10 minutes. I’ll also need to be able to take advantage of my creative
thinking skills to be able to format the video in a way that will engage the viewers throughout the entire
video, keeping them hooked in.
Presentation Medium: My plan is to use YouTube to make a number of videos regarding the topic of
PC’s. The main focus of this series will be tutorial based covering the methodology of building PC’s.
Capstone Description: My main plan for my capstone is to make a YouTube channel that is
completely dedicated to teaching beginners about pc hardware and how to put all of the parts
together into a fully built pc. I will also venture into the topic regarding the overclocking of
hardware to get the utmost performance out of the pc. The main research subjects I will have
to go through include various sources covering what the specific use of each component is,
which components to prioritize when considering overall budget and value, and most obviously,
how to put all of them together. The one aspect of research I am already decently acquainted
to is the process of putting all of the parts together, however researching the additional topics
mentioned previously could boost the confidence I have in the information I will be providing to
any viewers. I will have to create my own YouTube channel including a custom profile picture,
name, and channel banner. I will have to use aspects of videography to make each video I
upload as appealing to watch as possible to keep the viewers engaged and interested. This
could include various B-Roll shots of hardware, transition effects, and more. Achieving and
perfecting these different types of effects and shots will require research. I will also have to
make the thumbnails as interesting as possible to hook the viewers in. To be able to make a
product including all of these aspects will require fluency in programs such as both Adobe
Premiere Pro (adding effects, making transitions, stitching videos together, and adding
voiceover), and Photoshop, (making the profile picture, channel banner, and each thumbnail).
This will also require a certain extent of research. Once entirely completed, the result I’ll be left
with will display all of the skill I learnt over the duration of this course. I also believe it will be a
straight-forward and comprehensive gateway for some beginner pc enthusiasts who want to
become better versed in anything pc related.
Resources/Skills Needed: The most obvious and important skill I’ll need is to know how to put a
PC together. The resources I’d need includes a camera and a wide angle lens, a YouTube
channel, and a variety of used PC hardware.
Community Connections: I have various connections with YouTubers who are proficient in the
recording, splicing, colour correction, and editing of YouTube videos. If I run into any issues
during those processes, I can reach out for assistance.
Limitations: A big potential limitation for my capstone could be budget as even used pc
hardware can be very expensive when looking at higher end parts. Another limitation could be
camera gear as I’d need to get a wider angle lens to film proper B-roll for product shots in my
videos.
Other Considerations: The overall design of my channel could help hook in a wider audience.
This could include profile picture, profile banner, and video thumbnails.
