Name: PRODIGALIDAD, Zxiakira C. Week Number: 2, D1

Year and Section: 2nd year - NUR215 Date: June 14, 2023

Knowledge

For week 2, we as usual did the endorsement, vital signs and medications. We did another rotation
of patients so we are assigned with different ones. There are also newly admitted patients and the first
patients we had last week are either discharged or getting ready to be discharged. We learned a lot of
things today, including what to say to patients who are suicidal. For the past three days of my duty, I was
assigned 2 times for teens that have suicidal tendencies. It was a little bit overwhelming and sad, but I
have to show that I am professional in front of them so that they won’t be awkward and they’ll be able to
trust the nurses, building rapport and therapeutic communication. We managed to discuss the endorsement
without any hardships and learned about imperforate anus and that colostomy is done in order to hasten
the healing process.

Skills

Today, we focused on getting the vital signs and endorsement since there are no medications
assigned to our ward. After the endorsement and bed endorsement was done, we started to gather data,
which proceeded efficiently and easily and then plotted it onto the chart that was given to us. Although
some policies were different from what we learned, we used the advantage of charting that we learned
from DLSMC and OSSAM. We also used therapeutic communication and were able to gather data
without problems.

Attitude

We are reminded of how important it is to greet every staff member of the hospital, not just the
medical staff but also the guards and the cleaning staff. We are reminded to always knock or ask for
permission before entering the room or interviewing the patient. We are also reminded to be approachable
and to apply what we learned, doing our utmost best and providing care and compassion with every move
we take inside the OB and Pedia Ward. We are also reminded to be observant as always and to make sure
to be confident and to do our duty while thinking of the nursing values and ethics.

Values

The values that are highlighted today were autonomy and confidence. Our clinical instructor
emphasized that the values we have to embrace were wisdom with confidence. Autonomy was also
instilled to us as we have our time to solve and chart properly by ourselves. She told us that we did a great
job listening to her for a little time then writing the actual charting at a given time. Care has always been
present in the nursing field since this is the main goal of our profession. Upon interviewing, we imparted
care via being respectful, understanding of the client and their family’s situation. We imparted social

1
justice through fixing their problems with interventions that can be done simply, without overstepping our
boundaries as nursing students and have voiced possible interventions.

Social Awareness

As explained earlier, we learned that we are to be in our best behaviors towards people inside the
hospital since that will serve as a practice of being socially interactive and cooperative with peers and
colleagues. It is important to understand that even though nurses are given autonomy, they still need to
consider the choices and decisions of the medical team as a whole. When we were in the hospital
premises, we noticed how the guards also helped with assisting the patients or their guardians. Every staff
present were to help each other as a team. And everyone greets each other with a smile. This also eases
the patients worry and instills trust that the staffs are confident in handling them with care.
