INT. KATIE’S BEDROOM - NIGHT
Toys on the floor. Posters of GOTHAMS ROCKSTARS: three

female singers. Music plays.
12 year old KATIE is putting a painting on the wall.
KATIE’S MOM (O.S.)

Katie! Let’s go!
KATIE
Just a minute, mom.
Katie steps away from the poster. She smiles.
The painting is of BATGIRL: She stands with her hands on her

hips, looking at the bat-signal during the night sky with
her cape flapping.
Katie puts her hands on her hips, replicating Batgirl. She

smiles, feeling hopeful.
MOM (O.S.)
Katie, the mall is gonna close!
Hurry up!
Katie’s smile disappears.
KATIE
Okay, I’m coming.
As she gets off her bed, she wears slippers and her jacket.
She shuts off the radio. Walks towards the door - stops.
Remembering, she turns back and walks up to the opened

window. She grabs her phone. As she’s about to walk away,
something catches her eye out of the window.
THE BAT-SIGNAL.
Katie watches in awe.
KATIE’S MOM (O.S.)

Katie!
KATIE
Coming!
She shuts the lights and closes the door.
CUT TO: BLACK.

INT. BATCAVE - NIGHT
The elevator opens. ALFRED walks out. He heads towards

BATMAN - who looks at the computer, blinking the bat symbol.
ALFRED
Sir, have you seen Master Todd?
He's not in his room or the
training room.
BATMAN
He went outside.
ALFRED
(surprised)
By himself? Sir, how can you allow
that?
BATMAN
I tried to stop him, Alfred. But he
wouldn't back down. He... found out
about Egon.
ALFRED
Oh, my... I told you to not keep it
a secret. Are you going to find
Jason?
Batman shuts the computer off.
BATMAN
No. Gordon lit the bat signal. But
if Jason doesn't arrive by
midnight, I'll bring him home
myself.
ALFRED
Well, that's unfortunate. I
prepared dinner for you two. Oh
well, I'll finish it instead.
Batman walks across the batcave.
ALFRED
Will you be needing the batmobile
or the batcycle?
BATMAN
I'll drive the batmobile.
Batman stands behind a wall. As he pushes a button, the wall

splits into two - sliding it open. Emerges the BAT-SUIT.
INT. BATCAVE - LATER
The batmobile engines RUN. it SPEEDS away. Alfred watches.
EXT. FOREST - NIGHT
The batmobile JUMPS out of the waterfall. Lands on the road.
INT. BATMOBILE - NIGHT
Batman, now wearing the bat-suit, is on the wheel. He

touches the SCREEN PAD.
INT. BARBARA’S APARTMENT - NIGHT
BARBARA is seated with her back to the door, processing her

emotions. She gets up and makes her way to the kitchen.
She opens a top cabinet, taking out a glass. Closes the

cabinet. Barbara runs the water and pours a half full glass.
Turns off the water and drinks.
Her phone RINGS. As she pulls it out, she reads: Wayne

Enterprises. Barbara answers.
BARBARA
Hey, Bruce.
INTERCUT: batmobile and kitchen.
BATMAN
Barbara, how are you?
BARBARA
(still recovering from
breakdown)
I’m, uh, I’m fine. Really fine.
BATMAN
You’re not. I can hear it from your
voice.
Barbara slaps herself in the forehead.
BARBARA
Whatever. Where do you need me?
BATMAN
I don’t need you.
BARBARA
Bruce, shut it. I’m helping.
BATMAN
You’re staying home.
Barbara angrily walks out of the kitchen. She heads towards

her room.
BARBARA
Nope. Not listening.
BATMAN
Jason’s not with me either. I’m
fine by my own.
INT. BARBARA‘S ROOM - NIGHT
Barbara heads towards the closet.
BARBARA
And now I’m opening my closet!
She opens the closet. Her normal clothes are inside. As

drags her clothes to the side, she pushes a button. The wall
splits into two - sliding open. Her BAT-SUIT EMERGES...
BARBARA
I am ready. Now where are you?
BATMAN
I’m not telling you. I better not
see you outside.
BARBARA
Don’t hang up-
Batman hangs up.
BARBARA
Ugh! He always does that.
EXT. CARNIVAL - EVENING
A dirty, weak amusement park. Dirty shops. A ferris wheel in

the distance with missing seats. Place looks like no one has
been to it for a long time.
The owner (late 30s) - bald, wearing a jacket - strolls

around the area. This is MITCHUM.
MITCHUM
I swear, it’s a nice place. People
used to be here a lot. Say, you do
look familiar. But my mind is
leaving blanks. Anyways, so what do
you think?
Mitchum turns back. JOKER faces away, examining the area.

Touching his chin, thinking.
JOKER
Hmm. Well, it’s garish, ugly, and
derelicts have used it for a
toilet.
Mitchum’s face drops in worry.
JOKER
The rides are dilapidated to the
point of being lethal. And it could
easily injure or kill innocent
children.
MITCHUM
So, you don’t like it?
Joker turns, looks at the owner with a wide creepy smile.
JOKER
Don’t like it? I’m crazy for it!
But I’ve got some questions.
Mitchum sits down on a pig ride.
MITCHUM
(eyebrows raised)
Sweet! Let’s hear it.
JOKER
Does anybody else know about this
beautiful carnival?
MITCHUM
I’ve got nobody here. I’m all
alone. Hopefully selling this
carnival can help me with my life.
So no, only us.
JOKER
Hmm.
MITCHUM
So you really wanna buy it? You
don’t disagree with the price?
JOKER
Money’s not a problem, nowadays.
Let’s shake on it, first.
Joker shows his hand, waiting for Mitchum to shake it.

EXT. CARNIVAL - LATER
Joker gazes upon a poster with a HUSBAND and a WIFE who hold
a BABY. He gazes at it with wonder and nostalgia.
He walks away. Strolls past Mitchum who’s seated at the pig

ride.
JOKER
It’s very unfortunate I don’t have
my money right now, I got loads
yesterday. But I’m glad we reached
an alternative deal. Nice doing
business with you. I hope we meet
again, soon!
Mitchum is revealed to be DEAD. His cheeks cut, drawing a

“smile”. Blood drooling. His eyes lifeless.
EXT. SKYLINES - GOTHAM - NIGHT
In the cold, spread clouds... spotlight of the THE BAT

SIGNAL.
EXT. ROOFTOP - GCPD STATION - NIGHT
Wind flows. GORDON and BULLOCK (40s) stand next to the

spotlight with the bat symbol. Bullock lights a cigar.
BULLOCK
You want one?
GORDON
No. I'm trying to quit.
BULLOCK
At least you're trying. Ever wonder
what will happen if The Batman
quits?
GORDON
Well, then I'll have a hard time
finding someone to trust.
BULLOCK
But you trust me, right?
Gordon gives him a look. Bullock rolls his eyes.
BATMAN (O.S.)
Commissioner.
Gordon calmly turns. Bullock surprisingly turns.

GORDON
Took you a while.
Batman watches the two. Cape flapping in the wind.
BULLOCK
Hey, ain't there like two more of
you?
GORDON
Where are the others?
BATMAN
It's only me.
BULLOCK
Nice. At least we have two less
freaks now.
Gordon looks at Bullock, frustrated.
GORDON
Bullock, please take your ass
downstairs.
Bullock frowns. He heads towards the door, exiting.
GORDON
Okay. So you got any updates?
BATMAN
Can't match.
GORDON
Can't match? Wait, wait... what do
you mean "can't match"?
BATMAN
The chemicals found at the bank
have too much toxic blocking them
from processing the match. If I had
a more fresh chemical, I would've
located the seller behind Joker's
attack.
GORDON
(laughs in pain)
That's just great news. The press
is all over me and I can't say jack
shit about Joker. The department
hates me that I gave you the only
evidence we had. Especially Parker,
he hates your guts.
BATMAN
There's another way.
GORDON
What?
BATMAN
I can-
Batman stops - noticing something in the distance... or

someone. Gordon turns.
Barbara, in her bat-suit, lands on the roof. She makes her

way to the two.
BARBARA
My bad. Where were we?
GORDON
(to Batman)
I thought you said you're by
yourself?
Batman glares at Barbara.
BATMAN
I did.
Barbara glares back.
GORDON
Anyways, what were you saying?
BATMAN
I found finger prints on the bomb
Joker used. Through that, I can
locate which of the six suspects
are working with Joker by checking
their fingerprints.
GORDON
And that should lead you closer to
where Joker is. Find him fast.
Before... before he blows up
another place.
Barbara looks down.
BATMAN
You can count on us, Jim.
Gordon looks at the sky, the batsignal.

GORDON
That son of a bitch will pay for
what he did.
Gordon looks at Batman - GONE. Gordon rolls his eyes.

Barbara's lost in her thoughts. She realizes.
BARBARA
Oh. He did it again. Thank you.
As Barbara begins walking away.
GORDON
Batgirl, wait.
Barbara stops, turns.
BARBARA
Um, yes... Commissioner?
GORDON
I just wanted to let you know that
whatever happened at the bank, it
wasn't your fault. You've been a
great hero to this city.
BARBARA
(smiles)
Oh, thanks, da-
(oh shit)
Da... that was very nice of you.
Gordon smiles. Barbara walks away, jumping off the rooftop.

Gordon gazes back at the batsignal. He PULLS the handle -
turning off the spotlight.
EXT. ALLEYWAY - NIGHT
Barbara glides down from her grappling hook. She heads

towards the parked batmobile. Batman stands aside, waiting.
BATMAN
You didn’t listen.
BARBARA
Did you really think I would?
BATMAN
I‘m tempted to take away your suit.
Barbara gets closer to Batman.

BARBARA
(staring in Batman’s
eyes)
Try me.
Barbara walks up to the Batmobile and touches the roof. The

roof OPENS. She JUMPS inside.
Batman sighs, hanging his head. He enters the batmobile. As

the roof SHUTS, the batmobile‘s engine RUN. DRIVES.
Barbara sits in the passenger seat. Batman's on the wheel.
BARBARA
Are you gonna tell me where exactly
we're going?
BATMAN
I know where one of the suspects is
hiding. Leonardo Kay. He’s close.
BARBARA
We're finding the seller, right?
That's what we're calling them?
Batman doesn't respond. Barbara grows annoyed.
BARBARA
At least tell me if Kay's one of
the likely ones?
BATMAN
Unlikely. His bombs are smaller
scaled. But he has worked with
Joker before.
BARBARA
I keep hearing his name. People in
the streets fear him. Interested to
see this guy.
EXT. GOTHAM - NIGHT
Under the train tracks above street, one nervous man in

white tops waits. His hands inside his pockets. This is
TREVOR (30s).
TWO BIG MEN in black suits approach Trevor.
MAN #1
Boss wants to see you.
Trevor follows the two men. They walk towards a specific

restaurant.
At the top of the train tracks, Batman and Barbara are

crouched. Spying on the three.
BARBARA
I think he has his men inside. We
might have to punch our way to that
finger print.
BATMAN
No. Stick to the plan. We need to
capture Kay without alerting his
goons. We have to be careful.
INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Two men walk inside. Trevor follows. There are eleven bulky
men in the restaurant, all wearing black tops, who glare at
Trevor. One group plays 8-ball. One guy smoking a joint.
Others seated in their restaurant seats. These are Kay’s
GOONS.
Restaurant EMPLOYEES are behind the bar.
The three walk up to the furthest table. A man with a hat

sits by himself.
MAN #2
(to Trevor)
Sit.
Trevor sits down. In front of him is LEONARDO KAY - long

hair, has tattoos on his neck, and wears a suit. He smiles
with arrogance.
KAY
What ya want?
EXT. ROOF - RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Batman and Barbara land on the roof. Batman crouches in

front of a vent. He grabs the edges of the vents and pulls.
The vent breaks. Batman gets inside. Barbara following.
INT. VENTS - RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Batman and Barbara are stealthily moving while crouched.
KAY (O.S.)
More? You want more!?
Batman stops. He gestures a hand and Barbara stops.

INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Kay SLAMS A FIST on the table. Trevor sweats.
KAY
You did your job. You're done. Get
the hell out.
INTERCUT: Restaurant and Vent.
Batman and Barbara peak through the vents.
TREVOR
(hands shaking)
Boss, please. I need the money. I-
... I-... I got a family. My
daughter is sick. A little money
will help her.
KAY
(rolls his eyes)
One final time. Get out.
TREVOR
Please. She’s sick.
KAY
(clicks tongue)
I warned you.
(to his men)
Take him. Treat him good.
Man #1 reaches Trevor. Trevor avoids him.
TREVOR
No, please! Don’t do this!
Barbara watches in worry. Batman analyzes the situation.
Man #1 GRABS Trevor’s shirt and his arm. He THROWS him to

the floor. Other goons in black tops start stepping closer.
TREVOR
No, please!
Barbara shocked.
BARBARA
(whispering to batman)
We have to stop them!
BATMAN
(whispering)
No. We stick to the plan.
Man #2 blows a MASSIVE PUNCH to Trevor’s face. Another kicks

him. Another one pulls him up and KNEES him in the stomach.
He PUNCHES him in the face. Trevor bleeding.
TREVOR
No!
Barbara grows angrier.
BARBARA
(whispering to batman)
We have to go!
Batman does not respond. Focused on the fight. Barbara

clenches her teeth. She KICKS the vent open. Batman frowns,
widens his eyes in surprise.
BATMAN
What are you doing!?
The vent hits the restaurant floor. The goons turn. The
employees gasp. Barbara JUMPS OUT of the vent.
BARBARA
Stop hitting him!
Kay watches in shock.
KAY
Oh no.
The employees run out from the kitchen door.
Goons #1 and #2 approach Barbara, ready to attack. Barbara

STRIKES A BLOW to goon #1’s face. As she does, she BOOTS
goon #2 in the nose.
Goon #1 gets back up from the blow. He charges at Barbara.

Barbara notices. As goon #1 throws a punch from behind,
Barbara dodges - takes goon #1’s hand - TOSSES him towards
goon #2.
Goons #3 and #4 whip out their KNIVES. Goon #3 CHARGES at

Barbara with his knife. Goon #3 STRIKES - Barbara DODGES.
She GRABS goon #3’s arm - PUNCHES him in the face and
STRIKES A BLOW to his stomach.
Goon #4 approaches Barbara, ready to strike. BATARANG HITS

his hand. Perfect aim. His hand bleeds as he SCREAMS.
BATMAN CHARGES towards goon #3. He JUMPS and KICKS him away.
Goon #4 falls, knocked out. Barbara and Batman stand side by

side. The remaining 7 goons stunned.
Kay stands, terrified. The two big men stand in front of

him, guarding.
Four goons CHARGE at the two vigilantes. As Goons #5 and #6

approach Barbara... She KICKS #5 away - blocks #6’s blow and
kicks him in the stomach.
Goon #7 approaches Batman, striking for Batman’s face.

Batman GRABS goon #7’s fist - PUNCHES him in the face. Goon
#8 STRIKES Batman with his knife. Batman blocks the STRIKE
with his GAUNTLET. He SLAPS the knife away. He grabs goon #8
by the collars...
Barbara is up against two. She BLOCKS goon #5’s punch -

twists his hand - PUSHES him towards #6. She notices #7 get
up and charge after Batman.
Batman - unaware of goon #7 - KNEES goon #8 in the stomach.

ELBOWS him in the back of his neck, dropping him. As goon #7
ATTACKS - Barbara FLIES IN AND KICKS goon #7 away. He falls
to the ground, moaning in pain. Batman turns.
BATMAN
Behind you.
Goon #6 stands behind Barbara - holding a knife and going

for the attack. Barbara, with no hesitation, HITS goon #8 in
the face - who falls, knocked out.
BARBARA
Thanks.
Remaining 3 goons watch the two in fear. One of them, goon

#9, has a gun pointing at them - shaking.
GOON #10
Come on, man. Shoot.
Batman and Barbara stare at them. Batman THROWS a BEEPING

BATARANG - flies into the gun’s hole. POP. Goon #9’s hand
bleeds.
Goon #10 and #11 CHARGE at the two.
Kay sweats. He looks at an EXIT DOOR in the distance - but

Batman and Barbara are fighting in the way. Batman PUNCHES
goon #10 while Barbara KICKS goon #11.
KAY
You two, get me out of here!
MAN IN BLACK 1
Yes boss.
Kay makes his way towards the exit door by runing near the
wall.
Goon #9 picks up a chair from the restaurant.
Barbara GRABS goon #11’s punch- HITS him in the neck.
Goon #9 LIFTS the chair, targeting Barbara.
Batman UPPER CUTS goon #10 - KNEES him in the stomach -

KICKS him away. He turns and sees goon #9 with the chair.
BATMAN
Batgirl, behind you!
Barbara notices the chair behind her. She JUMPS OVER goon
#11. Goon #9 HITS Goon #11 - who falls to the ground in
pain. Goon #9 realizes his mistake.
GOON #9
Shit.
He looks at Barbara. She PUNCHES him in the face. He drops

to the floor, knocked out.
Batman looks around. Kay is heading towards the exit. Batman

runs towards Kay- but STOPPED BY THE TWO MEN.
The two men STRIKE. Batman steps back, dodging the punches.
He notices Kay leaving the door.
BATMAN
Batgirl, go after Kay!
Barbara runs towards the exit door.
BARBARA
I’m on it!
Batman dodges another punch from man #1. He grabs man #1’s
arm - FIST SLAPS him in the jaw. While holding his arm -
Batman HITS man #2 in the head. KICKS his knee.
Batman elbows man #1 in the stomach. He GRABS his neck and

FLIPS HIM OVER to the 8-BALL POOL. THE POOL BREAKS.
Man #2 CHARGES at Batman. Batman JUMPS over him. Man #2

turns and RECEIVES A RIGHT HOOK. Batman BOOTS him in the
face - his teeth fall out. Batman KICKS him in the stomach -
he drops to the floor on his knees. Batman KNEES him in the
face. Goon #2 falls back, knocked out.
Batman looks around. All the goons are knocked out. Trevor
is on the floor, moaning in pain. He walks over the body of
Man #1. Runs towards the exit door.
EXT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Kay clumsily runs away from the restaurant. His eyes widen,
filled with fear. Stepping on wet ground. A GRAPPLING HOOK
attaches to Kay’s feet. He screams as he's lifted up.
Barbara - holding the grapple gun - lifts him up from the

edge of a building roof.
EXT. BUILDING ROOF - NIGHT
She grabs him and throws him on the roof. He crawls back.
KAY
(weeping)
I’m sorry! Please don’t hurt me!
BARBARA
I heard you were tough.
KAY
I’m sorry. I’ll give you all of my
money!
Batman lands on the roof. Kay frightened, like he just saw

the devil.
BARBARA
(to Batman, smirking)
Look at this guy.
Batman passes by Barbara - not looking at her, unimpressed.

Barbara drops her smirk.
He heads towards Kay. He grabs him by the collar - pulls him

closer. Kay's in tears.
BATMAN
What do you know about Joker!?
KAY
J-j-joker?
BATMAN
(beat, gets closer to his
face)
Did you sell him a bomb!?
KAY
No- I mean, I have but that was
long ago!
Batman drops Kay, he falls on his butt. He grabs Kay’s hand.

He picks out one of his fingers. Batman takes out a small
machine with a screen. He places Kay’s finger to the screen.
The machine analyzes. Finishes.
Batman looks at the machine. In bold letters: NO MATCH.

Batman unsurprised. He grabs Kay’s collars.
BATMAN
You’re going back to jail. If I see
you out again, I won't return just
to arrest you.
KAY
Please, don't put me back to jail!
Batman PUNCHES Kay in the face, knocking him out. Batman

crouches, takes out hand cuffs and grabs Kay’s hands.
BARBARA
So it wasn’t him? Damn it... But
the night isn’t over. Who’s next?
No response. Batman hand cuffs Kay. He stands. Barbara

notices the lack of response.
BARBARA
Hello?
Batman turns around. Not impressed.
BATMAN
Do you know what you did back
there!?
BARBARA
What I did? I saved someone’s life!
BATMAN
We had a plan! We stick to the
plan.
BARBARA
(more like a statement)
That means we let that guy die? Do
you hear yourself?
BATMAN
“That guy” is Trevor Perry.
Convicted for murder and rape. He
escaped prison two weeks ago.
Pause from Barbara as she takes it in.
BARBARA
(surprise, struggling to
reply)
I... I didn’t know.
(thinking)
But, we can’t let someone die.
BATMAN
Barbara, Kay does not kill the
people that enter his restaurant.
Beat. Realization hits her.
BATMAN
(cools down)
You know this... If you hadn’t
interfered and stuck to the plan,
we wouldn’t be in a messier
situation. Kay would’ve escaped.
(calm, caring)
You’re not emotionally ready for
this right now.
BARBARA
(Burst)
No! I'm tired of you treating me
like a kid. You and my dad. I’m 20
years old. I can handle myself.
No response from Batman.
BARBARA
I’m not leaving. Let’s go find the
others.
Barbara JUMPS off the roof. Batman stays still, processing.
EXT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT
GCPD vehicles pull up to the restaurant. Gordon walks out of

his vehicle and gazes at something.
Kay - still knocked out - is handcuffed, leaning against the

wall. Next to him is a sign. GCPD officers pick him up.
Gordon approaches the sign: NO MATCH. Gordon understands.
EXT. STREETS - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Empty polluted road. The batmobile DRIVES past, making the

trash on the ground float.
EXT. ABANDONED STORAGE - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Rats walk across the polluted grounds. Two dark figures land
on the roof of the abandoned storage.
EXT. ROOF - ABANDONED STORAGE - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Batman and Barbara stealthily walk across the roof.
BARBARA
So that Ma Parker lives here?
BATMAN
Security footage captured her
entering this abandoned storage a
few times this morning.
BARBARA
How old is this woman? She looks
like she could be my grandma.
BATMAN
Old enough to make weapons and work
with Joker.
Batman and Barbara stop by a rooftop window. They peak down,

notice only boxes.
BARBARA
She’s the only one in there?
BATMAN
Most likely.
BARBARA
Then why don’t we just go in and
grab her?
BATMAN
Do not underestimate Ma Parker. Or
anyone. Her weapons can be very
dangerous. Varying from rifles to
bombs. She won’t give up to reach
her goals... She’s a lot like you.
Barbara takes that in with surprise.
BARBARA
Oh. Thank you.
Batman takes out a small spray can. He SPRAYS a bunch of

blue liquid on the window. It slowly melts all the glass.
BATMAN
Stay here. Follow the plan.
Understand?
Barbara nods.
Batman takes out his grappling gun. He attaches the hook to

the edge of the roof. He drops inside ...
INT. ABANDONED STORAGE - NIGHT
... and grapples down. He lands calmly. He looks up and sees

Barbara, who gives a thumbs up.
EXT. ROOF - ABANDONED STORAGE - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Barbara walks away and stops near the edge of the roof. She
looks down and sees the only exit.
INT. ABANDONED STORAGE - NIGHT
Batman, hidden in his cape, looks around the place. Many

piles and towers of boxes. Some tools laying around. He
begins taking steps forward.
He continues inspecting the place. He stops. Batman turns

and THROWS a BEEPING batarang.
The batarang flies into the hole of a RIFLE. POP. The gun
scatters to the ground.
MA PARKER (60s) holds her bleeding hand.
MA PARKER
(in pain)
Ow! How did you find me!?
Ma Parker whips out a PISTOL. Aims and SHOOTS. Batman DODGES

to his right.
Batman hides behind the boxes. Ma Parker continues shooting

through the boxes. She clicks - no gunfire. She clicks
again. No ammo. Frowning, she throws away the gun and RUNS
towards the exit door.
EXT. ABANDONED STORAGE - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Ma Parker RUSHES out of the storage. A grappling hook is

SHOT and HOOKED to her leg. Ma Parker SCREAMS as she gets
pulled up.
Batman walks out of the storage. He looks up and sees Ma

Parker dangling. Barbara's on the roof, holding her
grappling gun, smirking.
BARBARA
Underestimate, huh?
EXT. ABANDONED STORAGE - GOTHAM - LATER
Batman reads his machine. No match.
Ma Parker's in handcuffs. Leaning against the storage wall.
MA PARKER
(loud)
You will die! You get me? I will
escape Arkham and find you! I’ll
find you, her, your family, your
friends, all of them! I will-
Barbara holds a piece of tape. She tapes Ma Parker’s mouth.

Ma Parker struggles to speak, moaning in anger.
BARBARA
(to batman)
Figured it wouldn’t be her.
BATMAN
She was one of the unlikely sellers
too.
BARBARA
Um... maybe we should go after the
likely ones. Just saying.
EXT. ABANDONED STORAGE - GOTHAM - LATER
GCPD vehicles pull up.
EXT. ROOF - APARTMENT BUILDING - NIGHT
Batman and Barbara watch GCPD pull up to the storage. Gordon

exits from his car and walks over to a handcuffed Ma Parker.
He picks up a sign and reads.
Barbara unhappily gazes at Gordon. Batman notices.
BATMAN
You and Jim aren’t in best terms.
Barbara doesn’t respond.

BATMAN
I’ve never trusted cops. But Jim's
different. You should be lucky to
have a father like him.
Barbara looks at Batman. Still upset but she understood.
BATMAN
We should go.
Batman walks away. Barbara processes Batman’s words. She

follows Batman.
EXT. STREETS - GOTHAM - NIGHT
The batmobile SPEEDS by. Three suspicious men fearfully

watch.
EXT. CHINATOWN - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Full of tall apartment buildings. Chinese advertisements

brighten up the town. Chinese people shop and walk by. But
the dirty, unnerving streets remain.
EXT. APARTMENT ROOFTOP - CHINATOWN - NIGHT
Batman and Barbara stand on the roof.
BARBARA
Which building?
Batman points.
BATMAN
The one with no lights in the top
half.
Barbara looks. She finds the building: its windows lit up

only in the bottom half. The top half of the building with
no lights.
BARBARA
Found it. Why's there only lights
on some of the building.
BATMAN
The top half is all empty. No one's
allowed to go up there.
BARBARA
So The Mad Bomber's in there?
BATMAN
Ted Dymer was last spotted inside.
Most likely he’s hiding in the
empty floors.
BARBARA
Do we know if he has bombs?
BATMAN
We don’t know. Still, we need to
thread lightly. His bombs could
danger the lives of many who live
inside this building.
BARBARA
(Understands)
I won’t let that happen.
EXT. “TOP HALF” BUILDING - CHINATOWN - GOTHAM - NIGHT
A grappling hook latches onto the edges of a window. Batman

GLIDES and lands on the edges. He pulls the window up. Gets
inside.
Another grappling hook latches onto the edges. Barbara

GLIDES and enters inside.
INT. ”TOP HALF” BUILDING - NIGHT
Dark and completely empty. Batman calmly moves around.

Behind him, Barbara follows.
As they carefully move, they stop by elevator doors. Batman

and Barbara stretch it open. No elevator, only the elevator
shaft.
Batman shoots his grappling hook above. He grapples above.

Barbara shoots her grappling hook, following Batman.
FLOOR 1
The elevator door stretch open. Batman and Barbara hold onto
their grappling hooks. Barbara swings and lands. Followed by
Batman. They click their grappling guns - the hooks return.
HALLWAY
Batman and Barbara split directions. Barbara looks inside a

room. Empty. She looks inside another room. Empty.
Batman peaks inside a room. Empty. He moves forward and

peaks to another room. Empty, but he steps inside,
inspecting.
Barbara stops by stairs. She slowly, step by step, makes her

way up.
HALLWAY, FLOOR 2
Barbara walks into a more darker hallway. She slowly moves

around. She peaks inside a room. Empty.
Barbara reaches another stairs. She slowly, step by step,

moves up.
HALLWAY, FLOOR 3
Barbara walks around. Floor CRACKS. She hears the noise.

Barbara stops. Focused, she moves towards an opened door.
She slows down. Peaks inside. Nothing. She walks in.
ROOM
Searching around, she finds nothing.
Behind Barbara’s head, a bat is lifted up. BAM. The bat HITS
Barbara’s head.
CUT TO: BLACK.
FADE IN:
ROOM - LATER
Barbara opens her eyes. She is tied with multiple ropes to a

chair. She tries to break free and struggles.
DYMER (O.S.)
Trust me, Batgirl. You won't get
out.
TED DYMER (40s) - glasses, blonde hair, white suit - works

on a CAR TOY. He seems calm but also depressed.
DYMER
Did you come here alone?
Barbara doesn't respond. Dymer turns, pointing a screwdriver

towards her.
DYMER
I need an answer.
BARBARA
(beat)
Just me.
Dymer watches Barbara. Is she telling the truth?
Dymer turns, continues working on his car toy. Connecting

wires with a BOMB. Barbara wonders.
BARBARA
What are you working on?
He ignores her.
BARBARA
Is it a bomb?
DYMER
(quickly corrects)
Toy bomb.
Dymer tosses the screwdriver away. Barbara watches it roll

towards a pile of TOYS.
BARBARA
(direct)
Dymer, listen carefully. You need
to stop what you're doing.
DYMER
You're kidding? Do you really think
saying that will make me stop? Look
at me. I can't stop. Ever since she
died... this is all I have.
BARBARA
("she died")
Who are you talking about?
DYMER
Hannah. My wife. She also loved
toys, especially making them.
(smiles)
It was her passion.
(beat, smile drops)
She- she died in an accident. I
was... I was the one driving.
Dymer stops working on the toys. He forms fists.
DYMER
If only I could've done something
different... If I could go back...
He turns to Barbara, frustrated at her.

DYMER
What do you know? You don't
understand how I feel.
Barbara looks away. She understands.
DYMER
This feeling of regret... it drives
you obsessed. I will never stop
making these toys, no matter what!
BATMAN (O.S.)
Try to stop this!
The ceiling BREAKS. BATMAN falls - lands. KICKS Dymer in the

stomach - making him drop to the ground.
Batman unties the rope. Barbara breaks free.
BARBARA
Thanks.
Batman rushes up to Dymer - who's on the floor on his

stomach. He grabs him, turning him over.
Dymer holds a remote controller. He presses a button. He

chuckles. Batman widens his eyes in shock.
BEEP. Batman looks at the toy car. A bomb attached to it,

making a beeping sound. TIMER: 0:58. The toy car
automatically DRIVES - hitting the wall.
Batman and Barbara surprised. Batman grabs Dymer.
DYMER
Wha- what are you doing? No! Leave
me here! Let me die!
Batman PUNCHES Dymer in the face, breaking his glasses. He

becomes unconscious.
Batman holds Dymer as him and Barbara make a RUN.
They exit...
ROOM
They run down the stairs.
HALLWAY, FLOOR 2
They run across the hallway. Reach the next stairs.

HALLWAY, FLOOR 1.
They run towards the elevator. Barbara stretches it open.

Batman and Barbara whip out their grappling guns.
ROOM
The toy car beeps.
HALLWAY, FLOOR 1
Batman and Barbara JUMP into the elevator.
ROOM
The toy car stops beeping. EXPLOSION.
ELEVATOR SHAFT
The RAGING FLAMES reaches FLOOR 1. Batman shoots his

grappling gun to the side walls. The hook latches on. He
holds on.
Barbara shoots her grappling gun. The hook DOESN’T LATCH ON.
Barbara quickly grabs Batman’s LEG, holding on.
FLAMES above their heads.
After a moment, they safely reach the ground.
Batman and Barbara breathe.
BATMAN
(coughing)
Barbara, are you okay?
BARBARA
I’ve been worse.
They both smile.
EXT. BUILDING - CHINATOWN - GOTHAM - NIGHT
The “top half” of the building is on fire. The “bottom half”

is safe.
EXT. BUILDING - CHINATOWN - GOTHAM - LATER
People exit the building. Firefighters and the fire brigade

are outside. The water hoses draw water.
A REPORTER stands outside.

REPORTER
Thanks to The Batman and Batgirl,
nobody was hurt. Except for the one
who caused the fire.
Dymer is tied outside the building. No longer unconscious.

But looking in the distance, saddened. Next to him is a
sign. NO MATCH. Someone grabs the sign. It’s Gordon.
GORDON
Goddamnit.
Barbara rests her head in the passengers seat, looking to

the side. Lost in her thoughts. Batman drives. He glances at
her.
BATMAN
What did Dymer tell you?
BARBARA
He had a wife.
(beat)
He couldn’t save her.
Beat. Batman understands.
INT. CLUB - NIGHT
LOUD music. People dancing around. Lights of all colors

flashing.
TRICKSTER (19) - blonde hair, mask, blue and yellow striped

trench coat - sits on a chair with THREE FRIENDS.
TRICKSTER
I can’t wait to show you my new
toys!
Trickster takes off his backpack and puts it on the table.

As he opens it, he takes a SQUIRT GUN with purple liquid.
TRICKSTER
This may look like a squirt gun.
But no... when I shoot at someone,
they will be tricked! The purple
liquid is acid. Get it on your skin
and you won’t stop screaming for
hours! I think... I haven't tested
it yet.
His friends look mildly interested. Trickster drops the gun.

Takes out a RED BOUNCY BALL.
TRICKSTER
Now this may look like a red bouncy
ball... but when you throw it at
someoone or something with good
speed, it will... PSSSS. Explode!
His friends look somewhat bored. Trickster notices, upset.
TRICKSTER
What's with that mood? Fine, I have
something better.
Trickster drops the ball inside his bag. He takes out a

GAUNTLET.
TRICKSTER
Look, this may look like a large
metal glove but it’s not. This
thing... is secretly a weapon.
Look...
Trickster shows the round light in its palms.
TRICKSTER
I aim at someone and BAM! A blast.
Charged by powerful energy.
He drops it inside his backpack.
TRICKSTER
So... you get the point. I have
some sick, cool weapons that
everyone wishes they had.
(to himself)
Aw, my dad would be so proud of me.
(to friends)
Now, tell me how many banks we
could rob with my toys?
EXT. CLUB - NIGHT
Trickster and the three friends are visible through a window

that has a small rounded piece of gadget attached.
EXT. ROOFTOP - CLUB - NIGHT
Batman and Barbara stand near the edge. Batman holds

binoculars - watching. Barbara holds an audio machine that
is displaying the audio conversation.
FRIEND 1 (O.S.)
(from audio machine)
I don’t know, Trixter. Maybe like
five, or six. Depends if the bat
shows up.
TRICKSTER (O.S.)
Don’t worry about the bat. I know
how to handle him.
Barbara looks at Batman.
BARBARA
So, he’s also obsessed with toys?
BATMAN
His weapons are dangerous. We need
to lure him out carefully.
BARBARA
Surely he’s the one, right?
BATMAN
He has worked with Joker many
times. It’s very likely.
Audio of glasses shattering.
BARBARA
What was that?
TRICKSTER (O.S.)
What did you say!?
INT. CLUB - NIGHT
Trickster grabs Friend 1 by the collars.
TRICKSTER
Don’t you dare disrespect my father
again!
FRIEND 1
I’m... I’m sorry, bro. I was just
sayin’. Like, your father couldn't
beat the bat when he was in Gotham.
TRICKSTER
I know the bat's dangerous! You
don’t think I can beat him?
FRIEND 1
It’s... it’s Batman, dude.
TRICKSTER
Oh, piss off!
Trickster throws him on the floor.
EXT. ROOFTOP - CLUB - NIGHT
Batman looks worried.
BATMAN
This is not good.
Batman puts the binoculars away. JUMPS down. Barbara

follows.
INT. CLUB - NIGHT
Trickster reaches for his bag and takes out the squirt gun.
TRICKSTER
Time to finally test this.
Trickster SQUIRTS the liquid on Friend 1. It BURNS through

his knee. Friend 1 moans in pain.
TRICKSTER
Don’t you dare underestimate me.
I’m the best criminal Gotham will
ever see!
BATMAN (O.S.)
I don’t think so.
Trickster turns. Through the window, BATMAN FLIES IN. He

throws a BATARANG. Trickster STABBED in the shoulder. He
drops his squirt gun. Hurt but smiles.
TRICKSTER
So happy you came, Batman!
Trickster PULLS the batarang out.
BATMAN
Not just me.
Trickster turns back. Barbara KICKS him in the face.

Trickster flies to the floor.
Everyone at the club starts rushing towards the exit.
Batman picks him up by the collars.
BATMAN
Where's The Joker!?
TRICKSTER
(chuckles)
I'm never gonna tell you.
Trickster WHIPS out a pencil from his pocket. AIMS it at

Batman, LAUGHING. Batman knows. The pencil is a HIDDEN GUN -
BANG. Batman BLOCKS with his armor.
Trickster KICKS Batman, who steps back. He picks up his

squirt gun on the floor.
Barbara CHARGES Trickster - who turns and SQUIRTS Barbara

near her belly. It BURNS through Barbara's cloth. She drops
to her knees, in pain. Trickster LAUGHS.
BATMAN
Barbara!
Trickster reaches for his bag and takes out the red ball. As
Batman rushes towards Barbara, Trickster THROWS the ball.
Batman covers himself in his cape. BOOM. Batman flies away.
Trickster reaches for his bag and takes out the gauntlet.
Wears it. It charges. Trickster aims it at Barbara, who
holds onto the acid-burning wound.
TRICKSTER
This is too easy!
The gauntlet charges... and stops. Trickster raises his

eyebrows in confusion. Hits realization.
TRICKSTER
Shit! The battery!
Batman gets up.
BATMAN
Axel!
Trickster looks back in fear. He grabs his backpack and runs

towards the exit. Batman follows Trickster - but stops as he
notices Barbara hurt on the floor. He runs up to her and
kneels.
BATMAN
Barbara, are you ok?
Barbara opens her eyes.
BARBARA
(groaning)
It itches. I'll be fine.
Batman pulls Barbara up.
BATMAN
He ran away. Let’s go.
The two hurry towards the exit.
EXT. CHINATOWN - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Trickster runs through the walk path. As he runs, he

shoulder hits a few people.
EXT. ROOFTOPS - CHINATOWN - GOTHAM - NIGHT
Batman and Barbara follow Trickster. Jumping over rooftops.
Intersect: rooftops and chinatown.
Trickster heads towards CHINATOWN MALL. He races towards

entrance.
Batman and Barbara shoot their grappling guns and swing

towards the entrance. The citizens gasp as they see the
masked vigilantes.
INT. CHINATOWN MALL - NIGHT
Trickster rushes through the crowd of people. He almost

falls but picks himself up. He runs inside -
INT. SHOP - CHINATOWN MALL - NIGHT
People run out as soon as they see Trickster.
Trickster rushes towards the BATTERIES and grabs one. As he

opens the plastic, the batteries fall to the ground, rolling
under the stands. Trickster growls angrily.
Batman and Barbara race around the mall. The crowd all
wonder what’s going on.
BARBARA
Everyone! Exit the mall! It’s
dangerous!
The crowd starts getting scared. They rush towards the main
exit.
INT. CAFETERIA - CHINATOWN MALL - NIGHT
Katie and KATIE’S MOM (late 30s) sit at a table. On the

table, Katie eats a salad dressing with her fork.
BARBARA (O.S.)
Please leave! Now!
Katie looks outside the cafe and sees BATGIRL. Her eyes
light up in joy and her smile has never been bigger.
KATIE
Mom! That’s Batgirl!
Katie’s Mom looks worried. She stands and grabs Katie, who
holds her fork.
KATIE’S MOM
Honey, we gotta go now.
They rush out of the cafeteria.
Batman searches around. He stops and notices Trickster

inside the shop.
BATMAN
(points)
He’s in there!
Trickster KICKS the stands. He sees the batteries on the

floor. As he’s about to pick them up, he notices Batman and
Barbara.
TRICKSTER
Ah, shit.
Batman and Barbara RACE towards the shop. Trickster quickly

grabs the batteries and opens the back of his gauntlet. He
inserts the batteries.
Batman and Barbara RUN in.
BATMAN
Axel, it’s over!
He closes the back of the gauntlet. Trickster smiles.
TRICKSTER
We’re just getting started!
He AIMS at Barbara. BLAST. Batman pushes Barbara to the

floor, taking the BLAST.
Batman FLIES through the shop window. He falls on the floor

alongside the broken glass. Bleeding from the side of his
lips.
The crowd begins screaming and running.
Barbara looks back while on the floor.
BARBARA
Batman!
Katie is being dragged away by Katie’s Mom. She turns back

to see Batman on the floor. She toughens up. She breaks free
from Katie’s Mom and runs back. Katie’s Mom turns in anger.
KATIE’S MOM
Katie? Katie, where are you going!?
Trickster aims at Barbara. His gauntlet charges.
TRICKSTER
Now your turn.
BLAST. Barbara JUMPS away, dodging the shot. Trickster turns

and aims - BLAST. Barbara ROLLS to the side, blast HITS the
stands. Barbara hides behind the counter.
Trickster aims at the counter. He fires a BLAST - the

counter gets damaged.
Barbara takes out three orbs. As Trickster fires another

blast at the counter, Barbara rolls to the side and throws
three small orbs at trickster. SMOKE POPS. Trickster starts
coughing.
TRICKSTER
Not cool!
As the smoke disappears... Barbara SWEEP KICKS Trickster -

he falls on his back. Barbara tries to PULL the gauntlet.
Trickster notices - the gauntlet charges - Barbara gets
BLASTED away.
Barbara flies away, hitting the shelfs. She bleeds from the
side of her lips. She grunts, struggling to pull herself up.
Trickster walks up to Barbara with calm and confidence.
TRICKSTER
Wait when everybody hears that me,
Trickster, the best criminal in
Gotham, killed Batman and Batgirl.
He aims at Barbara’s head. His gauntlet charges.
Someone STABS Trickster in the knee with a FORK. It’s Katie.

Trickster GRUNTS in pain.
KATIE
You won’t!
Katie’s Mom runs into the shop, worried.
KATIE‘S MOM
Katie!
Trickster frowns, glaring at Katie. With his gauntlet, he

SLAPS Katie - she flies away, dropping hard to the floor.
Barbara watches it happen. Her eyes widen and jaw dropped.
KATIE’S MOM
(Shock)
No!
Katie’s Mom rushes up to Katie, who's on the floor in pain.

Katie’s nose and forehead bleeds.
KATIE’S MOM
Katie! Katie, say something!
Katie struggles to speak. Barely conscious.
Batman tries to get up. Groaning. He watches inside.
Trickster pulls out the fork. Bleeding from his knee. He

tosses the fork away. He aims his gauntlet at Katie and
Katie’s Mom. The gauntlet CHARGES.
Barbara watches. Rage enters her eyes. She’s FURIOUS.
BARBARA
NO!
Barbara GRABS Trickster’s gauntlet and aims it up. It FIRES

and hits the ceiling.
She HITS Trickster’s face. She TWISTS his arm, CRACKING

BONES. He SCREAMS in agony.
She KICKS Trickster - dropping him to the floor on his back.

His nose bleeding from the punches. He’s in pain - holding

his broken arm. Barbara pulls the gauntlet out of his hand -
TOSSES it away.
Batman slowly walks into the shop, still in pain. He walks

up to Katie’s Mom.
BATMAN
Take her and go!
Katie’s Mom grabs Katie and rushes out of the shop.
Barbara drops to her knees. She THROWS a HEAVY PUNCH to

Trickster's face. Then again. And again. Repeatedly
punching. Her eyes nothing but rage. She has never been this
furious.
Trickster's knocked out, his face bleeding. Barbara’s fists

in Trickster’s blood. But Barbara does not stop - will she
ever?
Batman watches - worried.
She breathes heavily - her body tired but her emotions

aren’t. Trickster’s face is seriously wrecked.
As Barbara is about to punch once more, Batman GRABS her

wrist. Very unimpressed and angry.
BATMAN
Stop this. Now!
Barbara stops, letting her arms rest. She releases her

emotions.
As he crouches, Batman checks Trickster’s pulse. He sighs in

relief. He grabs his fingers. Whips out his machine and
scans. As scan finishes, Batman reads: no match. Surprised.
Batman stands, thinking. Barbara can’t stop crying.
CUT TO: BLACK.

Toys on the floor. Posters of GOTHAMS ROCKSTARS: three

12 year old KATIE is putting a painting on the wall.

KATIE’S MOM (O.S.)

Katie steps away from the poster. She smiles.

The painting is of BATGIRL: She stands with her hands on her
